It was not an elbow, but shoulder. The problem is that he hit the head directly without any other body contact, so it is very hard to call that an unfortunate incident. He could have made real tackle instead of this, but chose the way of a lazy player.

I'm sure that your opinion is valid. But since we have video clips about it, people can make up their own minds. I really don't think it's worth arguing. The bottom line is that the only thing that matters is what the directorate thinks.

Sorry for being so vague but what I meant by ´unfortunate incident´ is that we could have lived without it.

Play by play announcers guessing that he might be hurt, but they don't know, there wasn't any announcement.

It is fairly common knowledge that he has been suffering from an old bicep injury. The commentators, completely oblivious to this, repeatedly wondered why Zinovjev was not taking any faceoffs during the course of the last two games.

I just watched the video in slow motion and pausing... It definitely wasn't the shoulder.
At the moment of contact Obi had a subtle move with his hand and i think he intentionally hit the Swiss player. I don't think he meant to hit his head or cause any injuries, he didn't see what he was hitting. But this episode is so much like several that Ovi had this past NHL season. I am repeating myself but he likes little dirty tricks like this one.

Definitely not the shoulder.

Similar to Weber's imho, a hit that personally I belive to be legal but with the hit to the head rules, apparently is not.

I can't see how he doesn't get at least 3 games like Weber. Oh wait... yes I can.

Cheap hit by Ovy and he deservedly got a match penalty. Shoulder or no shoulder, hits to the head are against the rules in basically all hockey but in NHL.

thank u. 22 seconds in, I can see it's a shoulder, not an elbow. Clean hit, stupid refs.
Clean hit???? Maybe under NHL rules but under IIHF rules it is a clearly a penalty:
540 – Checking to the Head and Neck Area.
a) A player who directs a check or blow, with any part of his body, to the head and neck area of an opposing player or â€drives†or â€forces†the head of an opposing player into the protective glass on boards, shall be assessed at the discretion of the Referee a:
- Minor penalty + Automatic Misconduct penalty (2’+10’)
or
- Major penalty + Automatic Game Misconduct penalty (5’+GM)
or
- Match Penalty (MP)

b) A player who injures an opponent as result of checking to the Head and Neck Area
shall be assessed, a
- Match Penalty (MP)

Ovenchicken was lucky not to be assessed a match penalty as the player was injured (concussion).

Just have reviewed all goals in our net.
Koshechkin has made no mistakes!!!!!
Maybe his 1'st goal but there was a swiss guy who closed the vision to him.

2'nd and 3'rd were annoying ricochet from the skates of our def's!

So Great respect to our goalie Koshechkin!

Stupid IIHF rules, that's all I can say.

That swiss boy was lucky twice:
1. AO did not really hit him as hard as he usually hits (if u don't believe me ask gonchar)
2. It wasn't Scott Stevens.

As i suspected........he did'nt get 3 games.

can't take away the golden boy in front of the hometown crowd eh?

God help us if that had been a Canadian player doing that.

Aside from all the 'Canada are goons' talk that would go on.................he'd GET 3 games.

different rules for different players and teams.

That's the IIHF for you!!!

Sorry,i meant the EIHF.

No way was he going to get 3 games...............golden boy playing at home.

And he's not Canadian.

nice going EIHF!!

I'm not crying...........just want the standards on hits to the head called straight down the middle.

That's not a lot to ask from that federation.

enjoy your break!!.................it was an undeserved one.

Yes, I cheer for Russia. Sorry, I haven't realised that you are an impartial observer. Now that I know it, I believe you.

Seriously, can't you see the difference? :shakehead But CCCP is right, it is not important.
