So there it is, 4th round pick in 2020 and Hartman for Simmonds. So glad Hextall held onto him last summer when he still had some actual value left.

Simmonds Nashville career ends with 1 goal and 2 assists in 21 games and he wasn't even a regular for them in the playoffs.

How do you see this affecting his off season value? I mean, based on those numbers, what is he worth? 2 million? Less? Will someone pay him more?

Hard to say but the idea of him cashing in and getting four or five years has to be out the window now. Someone might end up getting him at a bargain one or two year deal, especially if he can rebound and be a 20-25 goal guy. That is two years in a row though of his production going down and he will be 31 in August. There just usually isn't a long shelf life for a guy who plays his style.

Didn’t he play every single game for them until his injury?

Man Simmonds just looks like hell

I'd bring him back at minimum just for locker room morale alone, but that's it.

Actually scratch that -- if he can't play top 6 minutes it isn't worth it. Kids need to play.

Two years was the time to trade and we kept him. He is not the same player and he is looking AT BEST a 3rd line, 2nd line pp specialist. Yeah I would take Wayne at one year at 2.5m over say Hayes at 4-25. But otherwise it ain't looking good. Can we also dare say the deal is a thumbs up for Fletch?

I’d call it a push.

I wouldn’t take Simmonds back for league minimum. There’s really no need for him at this point. He’s essentially a fourth liner at ES & I don’t even think he’s legitimately worth a top PP unit slot anymore either.

^ If we could sign Hayes for 4 years @ $6 mil, I wouldn’t even be mad.

As for this 4th round pick, f*** it. Should’ve gotten a 2nd rounder+ in a trade anyway instead of a 4th liner who showed grit in his first game. Shouldn’t have had to worry about this conditional pick being our only liquid asset return.

Simmer might be totally cooked, or he'll get healthy and rebound and have a nice year. But I wouldn't want him on anything more than a two year deal if I'm a team desperate for toughness and scoring. I woulnd't take him for minimum on the Flyers obviously.

Really a shame that Simmer is the victim of the ruthlessness of a cap league. When you're not a superstar or a high pick you kinda gotta take the security when you can and then you're underpaid for your entire prime. Finally hit the market and you're over the hill.

Simmer would be smart to sign one year deal in Toronto. Babcock will totally go full cleary with him and play him on Matthews wing once they lose kapanen.

I suspect Hartman and the cond 3rd was probably the best offer out there.
It's not like the film wasn't out there on Simmonds.
Hartman at least has possibilities as a 4RW, and probably can be flipped for a 3rd rd pick if need be.

With Hayes or Nelson, it comes down to price, if you can get them for 4yr/$16-20M, fine, but if the price starts climbing, walk away.
Hayes is a solid player who is probably a better long-term fit at RW, but he's marginal 2nd line and really more a solid 3rd line player.
Nelson just had his career year but he's essentially a 3C, pay him like a 2C and have buyer's regret.

Would have liked that 3rd round pick, but atleast people can stop bitching that we gave Simmonds away. Dude is cooked.

What would a team even sign him for at this point? I'd be hesitant to give him a deal longer than 1 year for 2 mil. His value is basically gone.

Hartman had 3rd line production this year at ES if you look at all forwards....and was 1 point away from being 2nd line at ES. It's sad, but true.

If he plays on the 3rd line this year, so be it. Ideally, we add and also Frost makes it pushing him to 4th line.

It was still a stupid move by Fletcher to turn down the 2nd round pick that multiple contenders definitely offered for Simmonds.
