From the beginning of the year he was averaging 17+ minutes of ice time! or solid second line minutes. So far during the season it has dipped to 16 and now 14/15 minute range, which is really more third line ice time.

Just curious as to what's been behind it, is it just Berube, or has he been a defensive liability. I haven't watched much philly this year, so was just wondering what's behind it from those that see a lot of philly games.

Craig Berube is over his head... that pretty much covers it.

He loves our 4th line and uses any excuse to get them on ice, their ice time had increased since Lecavalier got back in the team, then Vinny had a 2 goal game where one bounced in off him and Berube decides Vinny is capable of 15-16 minutes a night and the other 2 12-14 mins. Even Girouxs ice time was cut by ~1 minute.

The Flyers proceeded to lose 5 games straight while the 4th got loads of ice time, mainly in the offensive zone vs the other teams weakest lines, while all the other lines got harder minutes with worse starts. Vinny has been -3 since coming back into the lineup while getting the easiest QoC on the team and the most Ozone starts...

Simmonds is the same Simmonds as ever and while one of our weaker forwards defensively he works hard getting back... in fact, before Berubes 4th line lovefest the Schenn-Laughton-Simmonds line was really starting to click.

Incidently the 4th lines ice time got cut back to ~semi normal (11 mins for Vinny instead of the 15-16 he had been getting in the 5 games we lost) and they have won the last two games where the 4th has played less and the top 3 have played more again.

Appleyard almost hit the nail on the head.

What he missed is now that the fourth line is playing less and the flyers are winning more, Berube will increase the 4th lines minutes as a reward.

Lol if that's the case, it's not shocking. Career 4th liner who is now a coach showing preference to the 4th line :handclap: Hate when coaches do that

Awesome, thx for the comprehensive response.

So it's essentially just coaching decisions that are making ice times wonky in philly.

Starting to understand the berube next to be fired thread. Lol.

Berube plays his fourth line entirely too much. Everyone else gets their minutes reduced.

OP, you're really obsessed with Wayne Simmonds.

He's a really interesting player. Huge pp contributer, soso even strength. Fluctuating ice time. Can be an effective net presenc, but is a string bean at 180 lbs and 6'2.

There's a lot to talk about when it comes to Wayne!

In addition to Berube's incompetence is also just how the Flyers roll their top three lines. Giroux's line gets the most minutes. Simmonds should be considered as a member of our second scoring line with Laughton and Schenn/Raffl. The "third" line of Couturier though gets the second most minutes because they match up against other teams top lines.

Because Berube. He does not know or understand what chemistry in sports is.

When you made you living from giving and taking punches...maybe it has some effects on you.(and yes...I know some fighters are quite smart....Berube is just not one of them)
