Should but won't as they are not in comparable situations.

And their potentials aren't comparable either. If it weren't for Oates and McFailure sticking him in the NHL way too soon and limiting him to a Physical 4th line/checker/agitator role when he they should have let allowed him to be having time in the Juniors or AHL to continue developing the offense that he has the potential to have and showed in his last season in the Juniors, he would probably be putting up at least 30 points per season. He could still become a 2nd or 3rd liner (I doubt he is going to ever be a 1st level). He really needs to work on his puck protection, stick handling, shot, and makes his release quicker. Trotz did good with him this year bringing out Wilson defensive game and penalty killing ability. Now he needs to have his handling of the puck and shot (offense) taken care of.

Seems a bit high. I think most fans were speculating in the $1.5M ballpark. Wilson didn't have arbitration rights, either. Not much negotiating leverage from Wilson's camp, and his stats don't really back up a $2M payday. This puts him in the same ballpark as a 2nd contracts for players like Sam Gagner, Patrik Berglund, and David Perron (all of which had 49+ point seasons on their resumes at the time of their 2nd deals).

You do realise that Gagne and Perron signed those in 2010 and Berglund in 2011? That's 5 and 6 years ago. Brandon Saad had 47 and 52 points seasons on his resume at the time of his 2nd deal, he got 6 million per year. Your point doesn't make any sense.

I fully realize that. The salary cap has gone up, but not insanely so. You're comparing 50 point players to a guy with 23 points last year and a career total of 14 goals.

You, however, don't seem to realize the difference between a 2-year bridge deal and a 6-year deal that buys UFA years like Brandon Saad's.

Just gonna start this with epic happy with the contract...but I'll finish with tons of lols for the comments...

Everyone hates Tom Wilson because of how he plays, but if he played for your team, you'd love him.

How many times has he been suspended? Just saying.

The Caps decided not to qualify Michael Latta, his role was to fight and it seemed as if the organization made an effort to not have Wilson fight so much last year. With Latta gone (unless they sign an enforcer) Willy will be the bell answerer again as he was when Oates was the coach. So look out kids, he'll be unleashed again. If he puts up 20-30 points, pounds chasing defenders in the corners and wrecks people in fights, this price is fantastic.

One fantastic thing to watch is when he's on the ice, defenseman will literally bail and allow him to take the puck on a dump in cause they don't want to be hit. It's fantastic.

Asked and received.

Wilson may not always appear on the score sheet but there should be little question he impacts the game. And anyone who thinks the Caps don't need a Tom Wilson needs to re-watch the Flyers series. If it wasn't Wilson taking those hits from Simmonds and Manning who would it have been? Ovi, Backstrom, Burakovsky, Kuznetsov? Having Wilson draws the attention of the other teams agitators and gets good players off their game and he plays the role to a tee. One of the reasons he was less effective against the Penguins is because they don't have that guy and after the Sheary and Maata incidents, the Caps were effectively neutered from even the appearance of impropriety and Wilson (and the rest of the Caps) had to take it down a notch. We have lots of playmakers and goalscorers but remove Wilson from the lineup and it's a group of skilled Euros and the Caps aren't good enough to be the old Red Wings so that formula isn't going to work.

That is a great video and man can that guy end a career. Not many players like that in the NHL anymore and you have to respect that.

Yeah it was a clean hit from Wilson that ended the career of a guy at advanced age (for the game) and already pushing the limits of his usefullness.

Shouldn't you be saving some of your breath from these Wilson threads to whip up a new username. May I suggest FixatedonBigWilly.
