I was comparing this team to the 2011 team with some friends and it got me to thinking, what is the best line-up the Canucks have ever put on the ice? The following year, 1994, they underachieved but caught fire for the playoffs. We all know how that ended, but I digress.

This was a very very deep team from top to bottom!!!

Courtnall 31 goals 77 pts - Ronning 29 goals 85 pts - Bure 60 goals 110 pts
Nedved 38 goals 71 pts - Linden 33 goals 72 pts - Adams 25 goals 56 pts

Dixon Ward 22 goals 52 pts
Sergio Momesso 18 goals 38 pts 200 PIMS
Jim Sandlak 10 goals 28 pts 120 PIMS
Gino Odjick 4 goals 17 pts 370PIMS
Murray Craven was a late addition for the playoff run.

Different era - goals were not at premium and Jacques Lemaire was just beginning to perfect the NZT.

Very different time. You can't look at that 2nd line and compare the scoring rates to today's NHL. They weren't the best team in the league that season or the highest scoring. Canucks of 10-11 are the best team we have ever iced.

And that was one of the best seasons ever by any NHL team.

Not even close.

Well, maybe it's close. But the 2010-11 team in my eyes takes the cake pretty well here. I feel the 1981-82 team is a bit underrated, but fact of the matter is Brodeur was ridiculous too...he posted a 2.32 GAA in the first three rounds. That baffles me how good that was.

Look at those goals: 2 almost 20, 4 with almost 30, 1 almost 40 and Bure being Bure with 60. Insane for the clutch and grab era.

It wasn't the clutch and grab era. 92-93 was actually the highest scoring season ever. 21 players had 100 pts. 14 players had 50 goals. 15 teams had over 300 goals. Bure was only 13th in pts and 5th in goals.

Was just about to add that to my post.
And consider the goaltending on that team.

The best goalie stats were - 890 Sv% and 3.10 GAA and that was Kay Whitmore.

Kirk McLean clocked in with a .886 Sv% and 3.39 GAA

By way of comparison Ed Belfour - .906 Sv% and 2.59 GAA

Dear god. Dat perspective.

I guess this was right before the butterfly goalie with ginormous pads took over.

sure on paper 11 was the better team but maybe I'm showing my age here a bit, the 94 team was more balanced and also more likeable.

Secondary scoring was better and the role players in 94 did a better job and there was no implosion like in 11.

but these kinds of things are subjective too.

Except the question was

"Was 1992/93 The Best Canuck Team Ever?"

The 1993-94 team was barely a .500 team, scored as many goals as it gave up and finished 7th in the West with 85 points.

They had a hot run in the play-offs but a better team than 2010-11? Not in any way, shape or form IMHO

As mentioned, different times, but I still think the 93 & 94 teams were deeper from top to bottom than the 2011 team. The achillies heel of the 2011 team was lack of secondary scoring, that wasn't an issue with the early 90's teams.

I watched both teams (in fact every Canucks team since 1970-71) and there is no way that team was close to the 2010-11 team.

In 1992-93 six teams finished with more points and not a single Canuck player won an award.

2010-2011 was the best Canucks season in my lifetime, top to bottom that team was stacked.

It's crazy how well the team did even when we had almost every blue liner miss significant time, and be so close from the holy grail with half the team out or lingering with injuries

it's like the hockey gods threw everything at us to not make it work, and they barely succeeded

yes definately the best team ever but if only the injuries did not happen..like Samulesson we would have one but that was the case.........hopefully we have the same sucess again and this time finish the job
