It seems like this rule was put in place for cap-tight teams... but the fact we have so much cap space this season, this is an advantage for us!

I think Dubas should look for trading partners, see if they have a really good asset to offer (a #1 D). Then allow Nylander, and his camp, to negotiate with those teams.

Give Nylander the option to stay, or go elsewhere for whatever better offer he gets.

So you allow your RFA, who you have control for five years to negotiate with another team for a new contract. Won't Matthews and Marner like that next season when they negotiate their contracts. "Don't worry about the Leafs offer, they are just gonna let us negotiate with other teams"

Trading Nylander might silly enough with the precedent it sets, but to allow Nylander to negotiate contract with another team is absurd.
