Jesus, if this kid is similar to Bowey, hard pass.

Say, even though they are totally independent of each other.... if the Wings claim Kylington and lose Svechnikov, are we better off? Which player holds more value to Detroit?

More wingers, eh?
this is about attempting to bring on a long term addition , and theres help needed at every position . you dont just claim a player because hes a dman , you claim the best young player avaliable

You're describing drafting. Waivers can't quite work like that because you are adding that player immediately to the roster, so your roster's current makeup matters, whereas it doesn't when you draft (or at least not nearly as much). If you think this kid is better than enough of our wingers on or near the roster that he belongs in one of the 6 top-9 winger spots now and into the future, then by all means, sign me up. But if not, well, we have a bounty of wingers as it is. So many in fact that we waived Svechnikov.

Whether through waivers or another channel, I feel like another D coming in might be a strong possibility when you consider that depth in GR is going to be kind of thin since someone out of Cholowski, Hicketts, Lindstrom, McIlrath or Lashoff will end up on the taxi squad. That is unless:

-Yzerman is planning on just keeping forwards and a goalie on the TS since he's carrying 8D on the main roster
-GR is planning on sourcing some AHL-level D talent on their own (ala Nathan Paetsch a few years back)
-Or perhaps GR could get some D assigned to them from one of the NHL teams whose AHL squad opted out for the season (Nashville?).

More depth on D (especially in the Kylington realm where they'll be young and still under team control for little while) also makes sense because:

-Staal, Nemeth and Merrill are all UFA's in a year that could be moved as deadline rentals (Biega is UFA as well, but probably doesn't go as a rental, Djoos could also fit here if the Wings decide he isn't a fit and don't qualify him at $1M)
-Of the Dmen that aren't UFA's, they could potentially lose one to Seattle, so some insurance that could be in place for 21-22 wouldn't hurt

Jesus, if this kid is similar to Bowey, hard pass.
Similar stats, not similar playing style. I don't think I've ever seen an NHL defenseman with as little hockey IQ as Bowey.

I think Kylington is more similar to Djoos, and I don't think we need both. Neither are very physical, we'd wind up with the softest D in the league, if we're not there already. One reason why I'm looking forward to seeing Seider.

I said re-signing Biega and Erne was a mistake the moment those signings were announced. Better players can be had on waivers.... and there it is.

If anything, neither player deserves a one way contract, between the 2 of them, Stevie could have saved Chris at least a million bucks. Hopefully he doesn't repeat the same mistake again. Being loyal to bad players is how a team remains in the cellar.

So you could pick players X and Y from waivers and waive Erne and Biega.

But Yzerman isn't waiving. So there isn't any better players on waivers in his eyes. He will for sure claim somebody he likes and he sees fitting on his plans.

Chris is trying to save money, remember Abby got bought out to save $3M? I have absolutely no idea why Stevie gave them both one way contracts.

I think in any other season, Erne and Biega would be gone in favor of DLR and Kylington, etc. If Kylington doesn't work out, his AHL salary is $70k.

I doubt Stevie picks up any more players on waivers, but I hope I'm wrong.

Weird fetish for someone like Kylington, when we already got probably a better waiver-claim in Djoos. Stats won't really favor Kylington in a comparison.

That guy addressed a need, more than Kylington. But you don't need two. Djoos is replacing Biega yeah.

I have never ever heard the name until now. What do you know about him?

Admittedly not much. I watched a few Devils games last year after grabbing him in fantasy hockey. He isn't very big, moved the puck well, and didn't appear to be an issue defensively. That said it was all of a handful of Devils games I sort of watched out of curiosity. I didn't realize he was as old as he was.

It will interesting to see if Tyler Johnson will clear waivers which I would expect he will.

Think he clears for sure, because there's even less cap space now, than earlier on the season, when he was also waived.

And I don't understand why Tampa is waiving him, because they need him on-ice. Maybe that minimized roster saves some extra cap, so it's just technical move.
