Can someone explain to me why we did not take a chance on this guy? We lost Hickey, Greene and Willie out and Scuds probably gone next year. He would look good on ther PP with Doughty. Why have 7 million in cap space if you are not going to use some of it?

Because he's horrible.

18:38 average ice time , 2 Goals already in 3 games. Not saying he is a superstar, but he can be an asset on the PP where we need a shooter at the point. Why is he good enough for the Blues but not us?

no loss imo.

the guy has 2 goals in as many games, after not playing in the NHL for 2+ years. i doubt he continues this point streak.

there was a reason he didn't play for the Rangers for years. he was behind a pool of talented young Dmen, he was aging and losing his ability to surpass them. it's possible and most likely the case here in LA also.

at some point you have to bring up the 'kids' and see if they can do it. what if the Kings did bring him in last season or now? where does that leave Voynov, AMart and now Muzzin in their development? that pushes at least one of them down into MAN.

Hickey couldn't make the cut and he never saw a game with LA. you can't continue to sign big name vets and 'take a chance' at the expense of the home grown talent you put time and money into. otherwise what's the point of drafting at all?

you draft and develop talent and work from an inside-out philosophy, one that builds from within. this is how you build a team that competes each and every year. taking 'a chance' on Redden means we don't see Muzzin now. for him to 'get his chance' after busting his hump in MAN. it also means Whiskey doesn't get his chance to step in and contribute.

so far Muzzin and Whiskey have played well and in time, their value increases (hopefully) that at some point it gives DL a 'tough decision'. remember the last 'tough decision' from last season? that was Voynov pushing JJ out and letting DL go after Carter.

we saw for decades where that got the Kings. no place fast when it came to playoff and Stanley Cup results. the only thing it accomplished was for aging vets to grab a quick contract before retirement in most cases

"Why is he good enough for the Blues but not us?"

the Blues aren't as deep on the blueline as LA, or NYR have been the past few years.

The Stanley Cup
A) the Kings did try to sign him.

B) he chose St. Louis.

C) he sucks anyway. He's not going to continue scoring at a .67 GPG pace. The Kings already have their puck moving defenseman spots filled. If they're going to add someone, it will be along the lines of a Mitchell/Greene replacement.

As for DL going after Redden.

"The Kings had already been on the hunt for a defenseman prior to the injury. Kings GM Dean Lombardi sniffed around the possibility of adding Wade Redden, who was bought out by the New York Rangers and later signed with the St. Louis Blues, but Lombardi told TFP he didn't pursue that option. "

Ok so we lose Hickey, Greene and Willie and have a chance to pick up Redden for free for added depth and we let him slide to the Blues. Nice. Our PP is last in the league and sucked last year as well, why can't we address the weakness before it gets worse.

Yeah and what if DL had signed him and he produced nothing for the Kings then? There'd be that thread where someone accuses DL of poor asset management and not using home grown talent.

Furthermore, I doubt the Kings lose Hickey if there was a real off-season, training camp, and pre-season where players could be moved more or less freely without waiver trouble.

These threads never cease to amaze me at the beginning of a season. Lets try to play a hockey season first before we speculate on what ifs.

****ing LOL. Wade Redden is going to save our power play? When Kopitar, Doughty, Richards, Carter, Brown and Williams all can't?

I mean, that must be your main point, seeing as how our depth on D hasn't been responsible for our poor performances to date.

We need a left handed shooter on the PP, in case you haven't noticed a Forward at the point isn't working. And Dreswkie and Muzzuin are not ready for PP time. Doughty - Redden on the PP1, Martinez- Voynov PP2 with Redden taking bottom 6 minutes with Muzzin would be a good alternative until we get our regular D back in the line up. We are not maiking the playoffs this year with the last place poweplay, it already cost us 2 games for not scoring on them.

AMart and Willie take care of this. no need to add a guy to the roster for just this purpose. Kings rely to much on having the guys play on their stick sides as it is now. this day and age the way PK units play it isn't about having the cannon from the point. it's about just getting it on net and you have a better chance with wrist and snap shots. if the big cannon was the answer, then guys wouldn't be jumping in front of Chara's slapshot.

i wouldnt be a fan of having an aging vet that has shown slow foot speed and transitions the past few years, matched up with a rookie on the #3 unit either. people ***** about Scuds and Greeners lack of speed and mobility as it is.

Redden hasn't even scored a pp goal, how is he supposed to help us on the pp? Not to mention, he's playing with Pietrangelo, that's why He seems to be doing well.

This is downright hilarious. Our last place power play, all of four games into the season. At this stage one night can probably vault us into the 20th best PP. It runs HOT as well as COLD. Right now it is COLD, eventually it will be NOT COLD.

Worrying over a small, admittedly pathetic sample size as an excuse to lament the non-signing of a C-list defenseman. Good gravy.

Just because the team you cheer for is the Cup Champ, doesn't mean everyone wants to play for it.

Redden might have not choose to come to LA. It's a deep blue line once the Kings are healthy. Redden would have been scratched or waived when everyone is back healthy.

I would gather also that the Kings are still going to have problems attracting FA. The West Coast is not popular due to travel.
