I got these same kind of posts when I didn't have Connacher, Filatov, Da Costa & Pettersson in my lineups in the past when so many others did. I have also been saying since last summer or longer that Condra wouldn't be re-signed which was against what most were saying so I'm used to being in the minority here. :naughty:

But to be fair didn't you also say guys like Grant and Robinson would be on the team?

He's FAR from 1000.

Aragorn had DD, Buddy Robinson, Sdao among others in starting lineups in the past. He was also an advocate of the Legwand signing and getting Steve Ott to play last year with us. He was also a proponent of trading away Hoffman. Specifically for Stewart.

If you notice, there is a trend there.

Edit: Forgot about the Grant vs JGP discussions I had with him as well. Thanks Bileur

For me there are 3 groups of players. Others may have a different groupings. Those I consider "A" list forwards. The guaranteed must be starters. Ryan, Turris, MacArthur and I put Stone in that group with Zibanejad and probably Hoffman with only slight reservations. JGP is close but I put him in the lead of the "B" group with guys like Lazar, Michalek, Smith and Chiasson. The "B" group are good players, some with upside potential but for a variety of reasons could be overtaken by others even if only for a year or so as in the case of Lazar or even possibly in a year or 2 for the last 3 depending on their own or other players development. Group 3 is the rest who might push a group B guy out or just fill out the 13 man roster. When you look at the pecking order as far as who might stay and who might go within the next couple of years, I think JGP is pretty safe for a long while. I see JGP grow as a defensive specialist like Carbonneau did in MTL.

i get the impression you enjoy certain players failing
I don`t enjoy anyone failing, why would you even say that? I just prefer a bigger team. I have nothing against Pageau he seems like a very nice guy.

The only comparible player out of those guys is maybe Conacher, and he was in the starting line up

You don't think Da Costa is comparable since so many here are wanting him back? I assume because Connacher played a lot of games & was considered part of the team too. Yea I see that but I just made a list off the top.

I don't believe I said one was better than the other or even compared them, they were just never in my starting lineups, that's all.

Looking at the poll results, like 1 person doesn't think JGP will be on the starting roster. And you quoted Aragorn. He hates Pageau because he isn't 6'3.

Again I don't hate Pageau, I don't know him. I prefer a bigger team is all & while I doubt it will happen this yr I would like to see Paul play centre in Ottawa soon. I don't use words like hate, fail or garbage when describing players. I just prefer a different kind of player that is not to say that I don't appreciate what Pageau brings to the team, I think he is a hell of a player. I'm just not sure they can make it to a cup final with him at centre but I also hope he proves me wrong & I have been wrong often. I hope he has a great yr, I hope the whole team does.

But to be fair didn't you also say guys like Grant and Robinson would be on the team?

Yes, in the past I have & I think Robinson will eventually replace Neil's spot on the roster this yr but it may just as easily not happen. To be fair, I believe the title of the threat is "Vote for the 13 forwards you want to see in the lineup on opening night" & that is what I wrote who I wanted to see. It isn't who I think will be in the lineup on opening night. I'm hoping to see Paul play centre on the 3rd line on opening night but realistically it's next to impossible that it will happen, right?
Not to mention his weird Dziurzynski fetish...

Again, to be fair, didn't you think he was playing pretty well in the few games he played for Ottawa until he decided to fight McClaren? His case was a very sad situation for the poor guy but he did make it to the NHL for a few games. Unfortunately, that may have ended his only shot at the NHL but the Sens did re-sign him for Bingo & I have read in the papers that he has a shot at a call up this yr. My own opinion at this point is that the fight may have ended his only opportunity at playing in the NHL, I feel for the poor guy. Proof positive that I'm not always right.

I was referring to previous threads like this in the past actually.

I also agree that it's not far fetched to think Robinson will replace Neil.

I was just pointing out that while you may have been right on some calls others were not as correct. Nothing personal.

Agreed, I am often wrong. IMO there are numerous possibilities with the bottom six on this team, lots of possible scenarios could be played out. Is it far fetched to say that Lazar could start the yr in Bingo? Or that Prince could be returned to Bingo regardless of the possibility that he could be claimed off waivers because there isn't room on the roster for him. Or that the Sens decide to keep Wideman on the roster over any other prospect to start the season? I don't think it's a stretch but others might & will argue against it, lots of people have different opinions is to what could happen this fall. It's just an opinion after all. Enjoy your day.

Beyond the top 5-6 anything is possible. I doubt they send Lazar down after making so much effort to keep him here last year. We can't even be sure about Greening. The way Bryan Murray does things it's possible he could start the year in Ottawa. On top of that a convenient injury or 2 before the season starts can change a lot of things.

Lazar gets sent down just for simplicity of no waivers while they figure out what to do with a couple other guys who do have to clear waivers. Greening gets sent down again probably just to see if someone might claim him to start the season.
We've done it every year with one or two guys, even Karlsson if I remember correctly ended up getting bumped out after his first primary season up for like 10-20 games. Zibby definitely did. Pageau is a clear case of that. And so on.

i want to see:

macarthur - turris - ryan: this gets players that can carry the play with bobby to help keep those slumps short
hoffman - zibanejad - stone: basically the same reaason as above. ryan hoffman, and zibanejad are three players that sometimes have a hard time creating offense. stone and turris are our two best players for that. splitting them up should keep our top 6 humming along nicely.
puempel - pageau - prince: young lines can be scary. i believe all these players are hard workers that will take care of business in their own end. they are all talented offensively as well. could make for a difficult to contain line.
michalek - lazar - robinson: all are good defensively. all have the ability to bring something to the table offensively, though they're either unproven or extremely inconsistent.

extra: smith. good in the dot and responsible. can also play wing.

i really wanted to put chiasson in, and many people may call me crazy putting robinson in over him, but i really wanted a defensive specialist to replace condra. robinson can help replace what we lost in condra. he has a little creativity to his game and he's a good skater, especially for his size. i don't expect robinson to be there though. it will be chiasson in his place. i don't really mind it that way/ in fact, i'm happy chiasson will be getting another chance.

It's not necessarily what I hope will happen, but that's what will happen for now :

MacArthur-Turris-Stone
Hoffman-Zibanejad-Ryan
Michalek-Pageau-Chiasson
Prince-Smith-Neil
Greening

Lazar and Puempel waiting in the ranks until the numbers game is sorted out. One of them (probably Lazar) will still start in the NHL as the team might go with 14 forwards, 7 D-men and 2 goalies.
