From GR last week:

WJC: Budik hopeful his play will lead to contract with the Sabres

"[The Sabres] wanted me to play good defense, be aggressive behind and in front of the net, make good passes, [work on] skating, and to shoot more," Budik said.
With Budik's play at this year's World Juniors, and if he continues to play well in the WHL, those dreams of signing a NHL contract with the Sabres may come true.

Prince Albert Raiders defenseman Vojtech Budik (2016, fifth round) is putting together the most productive stretch of his Western Hockey League career on the heels of his rock-solid, five-assist showing with the Czech Republic at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

Budik lit the lamp in three consecutive games last week, including a two-goal, one-assist effort Friday to earn the game's first star in a 5-1 triumph over Red Deer. On Saturday, Budik filled the net with the overtime goal to power the Raiders to a 3-2 win over Medicine Hat.

Budik, who ended the week Sunday with an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss at Calgary, has captured 20 points (7+13) in 40 games this season, including 15 in his last 15 played since December 1. The upped production couldn't come at a better time with Budik looking to earn his first National Hockey League contract prior to the June 1 deadline.

Nice run he's on after coming back from the U20's -- 6-9-15 in the 13 games since he's been back is far and away the most productive offensive stretch he's had in the dub.

It's also around the same time Guhle started stringing points together in the WHL too, except Guhle needed a trade out of PA unlike Budik.

Excellent timing for this surge. It's so rare to have a junior defensive defenseman transition to the pros, so having him pop offensively is a great sign. Interesting to see that he's outpacing his U-20 running mate Libor Hajek. U-20's really kicked him into high gear in that regard -- it's 26 points in the 24 games since returning.

He did the exact same thing last season. What a weird pattern.
Edit: 1 G 16 A over last 22 games in 16-17

Prince Albert Raiders‏ @PARaidersHockey -
Scores! @budikvojtech29 with the blast from the point on a power play!
2-2 game! 15:11 left in the third! #WHLPlayoffs #MJvsPA

In the third, Vojtech Budik tied the game. On a Raiders’ power play, the Buffalo Sabres draft pick’s blast from the top of the right faceoff circle got through a screen in front and Warriors goaltender Brody Willms at the 4:49 mark.
