One of the few five star hotels downtown is the St. Paul Hotel, and ALL the out-of-town visiting teams stay there when they come to town. So if you want to possibly rub shoulders with the players stay there.

The Holiday Inn is right across the street but St. Paul Hotel is on the other side of the building across from Rice Park. Otherwise Embassy Suites is also another fine establishment but it's a half a mile away or so.

Alright, here's the deal.

I'll come to Minnesota in March all alone and I have tons of accommodation problems. I'll be staying for a whole week. What's the best hotel (preferably in St. Paul since I won't have any transport...) that is not too expensive? The first hotel I checked was the Holiday Inn across the X, but there's no rooms available for that period. I'm pretty lost at this point.

Also, I'd love to try not to use many transport because I don't really want to spend more money, and that's without counting Wild tickets that I need to purchase as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not as familiar with downtown St. Paul as some others on here but I always park at the Crowne Plaza hotel and walk from there to the X. You could try that but I'm guessing it's a bit pricier of a hotel than the Holiday Inn. The St. Paul hotel, as 651 mentioned, is another possibility but that's getting very expensive. I go there to eat after games some time since the food at the St. Paul Grille is fantastic.

Slick Willy (Bill Clinton) and Mikhail Gorbachev both stayed at the St. Paul and all the NHL teams stay there, so my guess is it's not cheap. My recommendation would be somewhere just outside of the city.

There is a nice Holiday over on 94 pretty much a stone throw away east of downtown St. Paul in Maplewood; also, there is a Country Inn Suites just down from there on Century and 94 in Woodbury and an AmericInn just down the freeway from there as well that might be nice price-wise. I've stayed at both the Holiday and the Country Inn and both are nice.

More options are in Woodbury as well and Maplewood.

You can always get tickets....The thing is that you would have to use Kijiji or ebay...but most if not everyone uses Kijiji. Stubhub exists but is never really used. There is also the official Jets Season tickets exchange.
Also if you want to take a risk Ticketmaster releases tickets that are held in reserve for Players wives, friends and so forth ( a few hundred tickets) that are released if not accounted for a few hours before the game.
If you dont mind spending a little bit more than face value for your tickets you shouldnt have a problem. If you can get Leafs or Canadiens games on the after market you can get Wild Tickets.

Look forward to seeing some of you guys up here...

I've got the Oct 10th game down here against Winnipeg, picked it up I think in the 4th round of my draft. I'd offer it up to a fan that wanted to drive down, but my Godfather snatched that one up when I gave him a list of the games I drafted so he's going with me. :D

I'm in Woodbury right off 94, it's pretty easy to get to the X from where I am especially if you go early (which I usually do).

Thank god I found someone for preseason "opener". Thought I was going to have to go by myself. :(

When I was visiting friends near here two years ago I stayed at the Hampton there, and it's one of the better hotels I've stayed in to be honest, that is a "chain" or isn't ridiculously expensive.

Off topic football question, but I am coming from Saskatchewan for the Vikings/Skins game on Nov. 7th. Never been to Minnesota before, so curious as to what the weather/environment is like at that time of year and how warm to dress for the game. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank in advance.

Ah, what the hell Fel, just stay with me in my single dorm. I'll buy a couch or a futon and you can sleep on that unless you wanna bring a sleeping bag in which you can sleep on the floor. Only minutes away from downtown St. Paul. It's an offer too good to refuse!

Could you help me with a quick question. What are the nearest hotels to Xcel Energy Center apart from Holiday Inn that is right across the street. Problem is that it is fully booked for this saturday and we are trying to find the nearest hotel possible.

Thanks!

It's pricey, but The St. Paul Hotel is very, very nearby (just across Rice Park from the arena complex) and is also where the visiting team players stay. Super nice hotel, too.

I always park in the Crowne Plaza parking lot when I go to the games. Not too far away and it's enclosed and heated.

sports bar close to Minnesota Wild Arena

I heard there is some kinda famous sports bar close to the arena where the Minnesota wild play? Can someone tell me the name and where it is. We are coming down for the Jwets game on Oct 10 and staying in the downtown St paul area.
Just wondering also how safe it would be for me and my wife after the game to be wearing Jets jerseys around after the game if we do decide to go out for a bite to eat or a beer ?
