The key thing is to not over-commit to any veteran players, those veteran players are just holding spots until our kids are ready to take them from them. In my opinion the worst part about free agency is that even complimentary or depth players can seemingly command 3 or 4 year deals these days. If you ditch guys like Cole and Horcoff who have their contract expire after next years, you put your team at the mercy of the UFA market to replace them if the kids aren't ready next year, and that might end up setting back the development of one of our prospects for those 2 or 3 years while they are waiting for a spot to open up.

Ok, so for the following players, how do you handle then in the offseason:

Ray Whitney Thanks for being a great asset to the Dallas Stars, good luck.
Erik Cole Hopefully he's traded before the offseason. If not, buy him out.
Shawn Horcoff Keep him and try to trade?
Sergei Gonchar Stay for Nuke
Stephane Robidas Deuce.
Alex Goligoski Buy the **** out.

This right here.

Ray Whitney -- if he keeps playing like he has the past couple of games, he gets invited back for another year
Erik Cole -- out damned spot!
Shawn Horcoff -- drive him out to the woods and leave him
Sergei Gonchar -- encourage retirement
Stephane Robidas -- Hit the bricks, pal
Alex Goligoski -- unless one of these AHL kids looks ready, he's probably back next season

Whitney and Robidas walk, while it's tough to say for the other four. I doubt anyone gets bought out, and they probably all play out their contracts. Although it would be nice to get rid of another 1-2 d-men to have room for Oleksiak, Nemeth, and/or Jokipakka.

Depending on how the team goes towards the trade deadline, I would hope we'd be trading some for young players and/or picks. In fact regardless of how we are going I would hope we'd do that. Hopefully some of the young players in the AHL are knocking the door down to get a spot by that stage.

Ray Whitney - probably retires, don't re-sign
Erik Cole - trade/buyout
Shawn Horcoff - trade/buyout
Sergei Gonchar - keep for Nuke
Stephane Robidas - allow to walk
Alex Goligoski - trade unless he turns things around

If you go to the Stars roster on the Main site, it says "DALLASS" on the bottom right of the background.
Just thought that was funny.

I guess its a good thing they play it right before the third then. Alot of the fan scenes were from the Washington game. I liked it.

In the video it looked like they were playing it on the big screen with all the stadium lights off? That only happens in pregame I thought?
