With their 5-2 win over Latvia, Team Germany accomplished their main goal of avoiding relegation at the 2013 World Junior Championship. The win allows the Germans to compete in the top WJC grouping again next year when the tournament is held in Sweden.



A key performer in the win over Latvia and through the entire tournament was forward Tobias Rieder. The Edmonton Oilers prospect scored the first goal of the game for Germany to even the score at one apiece, then assisted on Leon Draisaitl's two markers that helped seal the win.
