But only by like 100k, which means we aren't desperate to dump him (meaning it shouldn't cost too much too if needed).

But MB said he wants to be 1-1.5 under the cap, so im guessing he trades Byron and if I were him I'd go after one of Perry, Martin, Abdelakder in UFA or a Paquette in Tampa.

Basically I'd trade Byron and go get someone who good be a Villain on your fourth line. Not a good, a villain. All these guys can still play hockey and have a role. Whether that PP or PK get a fourth line specialist who likes to crunch people.
I’m always up for a bit more crunch . Lehkonen and a fourth for reaves. Reaves can beat on the wilsons , maroons and whoever else and Anderson can speed around scaring defenseman shi....... Vegas would be a little tight to the cap to I bet .

As it stands right now, Byron on the 4th line making that much money for the next 3 years isn't going to work for us.
Yes he is a reliable player with great speed, but as we have seen in the past few weeks, if Byron is moved and I think he is the guy they will want to move, don`t expect that much in return. I`d be happy with a 3rd or 4th round pick in return without any cap retention.
I like Byron to but to free up his 3.4 million I’m not against moving him . I’m not sure will be able to get a third or fourth for him . Not with the current economic picture. I wouldn’t object to moving him with no retention and one of our 3 - 2021 fifth round picks in exchange for a 2022 -6th round pick. This may not be enough of a sweetener but if it was that 3 million in spare change would be sweet to have at the deadline .

NJD takes Pauly, but with Romanov attached. Mete? No thanks.

dont really care about that, i just wouldn't move Mete for him
Fair enough I don’t see a spot in the lineup for virtanen right now anyway He’s not signing to play on a fourth line I wouldn’t think

Since were being totally rediculous here do you want suzuki being thrown in to ?
no, suzuki is no need. new jersey has enough smallish forwards and better center options for the top 6. and i know, it's ridiculous, as i quoted a ridiculous post. but the cost to move byron is something as valuable as romanov and NJ wants young NHL ready LHD with top 4 upside. romanov is the only player from montreal, which fits the profile. if you don't like the ask, fish in another pond. you can come back, when you are more desperate and we will ask for even more, if there is still any cap space left to take a cap dump.

There is no desperation factor though . Will put weal on waivers and if he doesn’t get picked up will be putting him in Laval and bringing up poehling which makes us compliant . Bergevin has two months to tinker with his fourth line and 5-6-7 d’s . All his heavy lifting is done .

i agree. the desperation will set in next off-season, when cap space will be even more scarce around the league.

bergevin just drilled a huge hole in the boat. in less than a month he has turned a favorable cap situation into a nightmare. for the 21/22 season montreal has 14 signed contracts for 65 millions. so 16.5m (max, probably less, if you consider bonuses and carry over bonuses) to resign kotkaniemi, danault, poehling, tatar, armia, and lehkonen. if you want to keep danault and kotkaniemi down the middle, you will have max 8 million to sign 6 more roster players, probably much less.

Tatar will either be dealt or kept as our own rental letting him walk . Danault and Kotkaniemi will not be getting astronomical raises . We do bridge contracts with kids like kk . Armia will be resigned . Poehling won’t take much .
I’m not sure who dropped their hook in your pond but it’s nothing to get your panties tied in a knot over . Will forget about unloading Byron in New Jersey and you forget about Romanov ok ?

During these thanksgiving days I’m grateful for a hard salary cap which reigns in the champions bringing them back closer to the pack.
If it wasn't for that cap teams like mtl tor and NYR would likely be dominant. If you're a fan of a small market team u should probably consider yourself lucky

you will be back at new jersey pond next off-season, if fitz hasn't used all the cap space. next off-season will be worse for sellers, i promise.
