My guess is they figure they got him with the last potential waiver wire pickup, so its between them or Florida picking him up again and putting him directly into the minors.
Best case he passes everyone again including Florida, worst case they loose him back to Florida and they get an extra contract slot. Pretty low risk considering his lack of NHL experience and this being the last day to place people on waivers

Believe they were waiver claim #28, but good points. He’s signed to a one-way and was passed over, doubt he gets claimed by us.

They got a Top six wing for Henderson, to basically pick up the slack for some of the young players, who will be with Vegas more this year. If it ever clicks for him, then they get a another producing player for free.

They have this way, of getting the most out of players. Look at Howden last year. They read players really well, and put them in positions to succeed. You never see Vegas shoving that square into the circle, like so many teams do. Concentrate on what he does well, and push him to be great at that same thing..

florida didnt want him back?

I think the risk is that if someone else put in a claim on him, they'd have to keep him in the NHL.

The same thing happened a year ago with the Penguins and Zohorna. They put Zohorna on waivers and Calgary claimed him in the pre-season, but Calgary put him back on waivers to finalize their roster. The Penguins couldn't afford Zohorna in the NHL (they had no other waiver eligible players to get the roster down to 23), so they couldn't risk another lower priority team claiming him and them being stuck with him in the NHL.
