Really hope he is going to be okay. That looked pretty wicked.

And this is what sets hockey officials apart from their counterparts in other major sports, IMHO. Not only are they expected to make perfect calls all of the time (hint of sarcasm), they somehow have to keep themselves safe. Need to have the instincts to avoid players, pucks, skates, sticks.

Not a good time for NHL officials named Steve. I think Steve Miller needed stitches a few nights ago.

I was at the game last night. Getting carried off in a stretcher is never a good thing. The crowd was quiet, you could tell the players were concerned. Rogers never once showed the replay on the screen so those at the game really never saw what happened.

Glad he is ok.

Scary to see someone get so hurt on such an innocuous hockey play.

Hope he makes a quick and full recovery.

Should 'Fly Like an Eagle' when they are on the ice to help try to stay out of the way. Some 'Joker" is gonna say something he is gonna 'Take the Money and Run'. Meanwhile, Steve Barton is gonna take a 'Jet Airliner' home for a while.

Might warrant a suspension for the players involved, a pretty dangerous play and put the ref in serious jeopardy. I hope the ref is okay. Sending positive energy his way..

That’s a nightmare scenario, tumbling onto the side of his head with full force. Bad as it was, he’s a lucky man not to have been injured even more severely than he was.

Imagine that happening in the days of helmetless refs.

Not sure if anyone else has said it yet, but Connor McDavid is lucky that wasn't a lot worse all around, because Martin's left skate wasn't terribly far away from Connor's face there, and we all know it doesn't take too much for those skates to really f/ck someone up, especially in the head or neck area.

Yeah....nothing suspension worthy here

Perhaps take a good look at the accident. There is no reason a suspension would make sense, here.

Seguin took a skate blade to the face just the other night, but luckily emerged unscathed.

Didn't look that bad to me honestly in terms of bones breaking, but he probably has a concussion.
I ref with a guy who just got out the hospital a few weeks ago after a similar incident happened. He ended up having a stroke a few hours later. 60 some days in the hospital. It's scary.

Falling on your back/neck/head area with little to no protection probably doesn't feel that good, I would bet he is pretty bruised ontop of having a concussion.

I had a similar spill a few years ago, luckily it was one of the few times I was wearing a helmet. I think it scared me more than anything because up until that point I was always able to protect myself in some fashion...but in that fall it was completely out of the blue and I banged the side of my helmet off the ice.
I believe a local coach died smacking his head off the ice without a helmet in practice that very year as well.
