Do you remember his rebound lack of control? The eye test. Every shot you were worried cause he couldnt make a routine stop. He was/is a $900 000 back up goalie on a team with a clear #1. Now I doubt he even gets another contract.

Oh, I'm not saying he was a technical specimen, but at the end of the day, a goalie's job is to stop the puck... not to look good. Reimer scared you in the moment, but he got good results.

Per cap friendly Reiner has salary of $3.1 million then the following year SB of $2.25 million and $840k of salary.

So total buyout would cost $2.25 million of SB plus $2.63 million of salary.

That’s $4.9 million they owe of the $6.8 million cash.

They save all of $1.32 million cash.

Minimal savings from a buyout butnipens a roster spot.

Ouch?

I think a lot of people forget how he walzed in here his first season out of nowhere and single handedly won games for us.

For a short amount of time he was a top goalie. Then he normalized and became average. Then in that game 7 against Boston he was the unfortunate victim of the worst team collapse I have ever seen in a ten minute stretch, I think he took more blame for that than he deserved, but he was never the same after.

It would actually cost Florida exactly the same $ to buy out Spooner than to buy out Reimer. The only difference for them is the would have to pay for the rest of the year Spooner + Talbot (1,2M + 1,43M) instead of just Reimer (1,17 M). Beside obviously helping Edmonton by lowering their cap significantly this year and making them save 1,4M real money, I fail to see what Florida gets out of that trade since they are not a cap team.

It would help Florida because Spooner only has 1 year left on his contract, with no signing bonus. Reimer has 2 years left, with a $2.25 million dollar bonus in 20/21. Florida should jump all over this deal.

Giving him that many years was dumb, You never give a long-term contract to a guy who never was able to be a #1 goalie.

Panarin wants to be close to an Ocean is the rumor.
He could sign knowing he will be with Barkov for the length of the contract.
Not a bad place to go, especially with the low taxes as well.

Bob I have no clue, I would stay away at his reported salary ask. To much of a big polar stat line, great season followed by meh. He is playing ok this year, but not like a (reported) top 3 cap hit goalie.

Panarin owns a home in Miami also

Buying Reimer out is a possibility and if they do so and think they still have a chance to make a playoff run, I can see them dangling one of their 4ths for Cam Talbot if there is no swap of contracts. (Eg. Talbot and Spooner for Reimer).

Dude sucks, I probably wouldn't bother dumping on him years later if it werent for some brain surgeons on the leaf boards who wanted him over Freddy as recently as last year.

Reimer is signed 2 years after this season, Spooner only 1, so the money owed/buyout is most certainly not the same. Reimer's breaks down something like this:

958,333
3,208,333
658,333
658,333

Whereas Spooner's is (after Rangers retention - assuming it continues in a buyout situation)

1,033,333
1,033,333

So the buyout money more than outbalances the remaining money the Panthers would have to pay this year for Talbot/Spooner.

Total savings yes. However, in the first year they open up almost $2.5 million in cap space. Second year of buyout they save nearly 200k. Then they're in the hole the last 2 years. That would offset having Hoffman and Dadonov, as their contracts are staggered.

I hope so! Optimus Reims can back up Freddy!

I would prefer that over Sparks but that's more with my hate for Sparks, I HATED Reimer by the end but he had some stretches where he was great Sparks has had no Stretches of even average play.

But I still HATE Reimer

Would have liked to see where Reimer would be without the concussions and if we didn't destroy his confidence by trading for an "upgrade" after our first playoff appearance in a decade, in which he basically carried the team there.

That is inaccurate.

Reimer has 2 more years left on his deal, so his buyout penalties would last 2x as long and he has signing bonus money which still gets paid in full. So a Reimer buyout would cost $4,883,333 in actual dollars and carry penalties of (in order) $958,333, $3,208,333, $658,333 and $658,333.

A Spooner buyout would cost $2,666,666 in actual dollars and a cap penalties of $1,333,333 for 2 years.

Oh god, the Leafs board is going to be wacky again if Reimer is a UFA.

I'd probably take Reimer for league minimum over Sparks though so :dunno:

Would Grubauer for Reimer & 2 3rds make sense? Or is there an internal backup for Bob waiting in the wings?

Avs could bury Reimer & give Francouz the backup job to whichever starter they bring in.

Concussions are tough though, one is enough to mess you up for a long time. When I had mine I couldn't play hockey for a yesr and a half without wanting to throw up afterwards because of the headaches.

I'm not a world class athlete obviously but you could clearly see the impact on Reimers numbers in the years he was out for a while with concussion symptoms. Can't really blame the guy for getting smoked in the head a few times.
