Very intriguing prospect. Should have a great year in juniors and at the WJC.

Sad. Thought he looked great at camp and preseason.

Am going to love seeing this kid play in a couple years.

Too bad he can't play in the AHL instead. Is he really going to gain much in yet another year in the Q ?

115 point pace and also getting a game in the show at the end of the season. You heard it here first

The A would be better quality of play of course, but the Griffins are stacked as is. Rather him get 22 minutes a night as the best player on the ice than 3rd line minutes in the A.

He’ll probably move up to the A for the playoffs though. Think he’s a full timer next year

If 1 year at juniors didn't hurt Rasmussen, I think Veleno is ok for that plan too.

After next year, both AHL and NHL are options for him. He could not play for Griffins this year.

I am really encouraged by what I've seen from him. Really great value for pick #30 IMO. Going to be fun following him in the Q this year :D

Good decision even if he seriously exceeded expectations. Let’s hope he keeps rolling in juniors and has a big year.

Looked great in preseason so let's hope he keeps up the good work. I still see no reason why he can't be the best center out of this draft.

so there are 35 forwards left and Valero wasn't playing better them? Seems rushed. Training camp in the Q isn't exactly that important.

They have no plans to use him in the NHL this year, so its better to send him down to continue training in the Q than it is to have him ride pine in Detroit.

There was no way Veleno was staying for the season.

Why not get him back to his junior team where he is captain. Let him start training with his teammates and have a great year.
I am sure coaching staff gave some encouragement, as well as things to work on. With all the negative press he has had prior to the draft, hopefully he takes this as a very positive experience.

He looked good in preseason but he has never really dominated the Q offensively until the last 30 games or so last year. He can definitely learn from being down there and working on things. Make a push to play on the WJC team and get some experience there too. Veleno isnt some blue chip, 1st overall center, he has lots he can work on in junior for another year.

He might be better than some but the ones left are vying for legit pro jobs. Veleno wasnt gonig to do that this year. Also, the Q regular season has started now so its doing his team a favour to get one of their top teams back instead of him just playing preseason with no chance of making the team

The CHL agreement is lame, I wish we could send him to GR. He’s already been in the Q for 3 years, it would be nice for him to play on a line with Zadina and go through it together.
At least the agreement lets him play in GR next year, after 4 years of junior... That's like a half win I guess.

Hoping he absolutely destroys the Q offensively. Not sure about the quality of his linemates though.

Why not wait til the preseason is done? What's Trashill going to say next Hicketts is his best young C prospect?

Veleno QMJHL career:

2015-16, 62 games, 13+30=43 points, 0.69 points per game
2016-17, 45 games, 13+27=40 points, 0.89 ppg
2017-18, 64 games, 22+57=79 points, 1.23 ppg

I think his production is trending pretty well. He should have some +1.50 ppg monster season at next.

Maybe its just me but I thought that young core have been the best part of the preseason. You can see them getting used to the speed and playing better each game. Maybe that's why they got rid of him quickly. Less politics.

So I guess that means that Ras and Zadina are starting the season at least. I hope anyway.

Yeah and that second season he went from a stakced team and the 8th or so leading scorer, to the highest scoring forward on the team. SO while the jump in production doesnt look big, he was much more dominant on his own team compared to his teammates. Last year his production was so so, then he went to Drummondville who had the best offense in the league and was by far their leading scorer
