GM comes out and says he’s sent to the KHL to get in shape and play big minutes to big a leader in preparation for the WJC. Gets called up a day later and plays 4 minutes.

They think they are playing the long game with the ice time incentive, but that pittance of playing a couple of extra years in their early development is actually souring their impression of the program overall, esp once they leave Russia and get exposed to the individualistic idealism of our league. If they have a strong allegiance, they may go back to the K like Datsyuk in his twilight years. Let them develop in N.America and not waste these years FGS. Its not zero sum, if he does well, he will contribute to the national team at every opportunity like OV.

When the calendar hits January 1st, 2021, Podkolzin's career in the KHL will be down to just four months. And if he has a successful world junior tournament in December, I could care less what he does with SKA St. Petersberg for the rest of the season.

The most interesting thing for me to monitor is whether the Canucks sign him right after his contract expires on April 30th, and whether he can crack the Canucks lineup in what will basically be the middle of their NHL season.

Do you project a Kucherov like career for Podkolzin?
Completely different kinds of players. Much is a scorer, and unless putting up points he doesn’t do much else to help his team win. Pods is a full time, 200 foot player, who will put up 30/30 (half of Kuch points) and PK, and be a total pain in the ass heavy body to play against. He’s more a Matthew (Puke emoji) Tkatchuk than a Kucherov.
Once we see Pods in our lineup we will all be thanking Bracket for his parting gift.
