Gotta take issue here. Especially now that a failed challenge ----> 2-minute minor. Not gonna try to find the data, but guessing it happens only rarely these days - maybe 2x every 100 games.

It was a dumb challenge. If it’s borderline GI, fine, make the challenge. With offsides, you need to be sure. This was a dumb one, whoever did it.

Agreed it was dumb but it wasn't some panic challenge as was implied.

Caps are the reigning Cup champs they won't be panicking in a game in February against the Colorado Avs.

I decided to search and found that someone has racked up the #s. For the most recent full season, 1271 games were played and there were 71 offsides challenges, or 5.6 times every 100 games if my math is correct. Much more in the article that I'm not going to read now.
