Since the vape (and Juul) trend has really blown up I have tried to warn people about the potential dangers of it. People seem to think that since cigarettes are so categorically and undeniably bad for a person's health that any alternative must be inherently less dangerous, which is really not seeming to be the case here.

As your article and other research have indicated, it seems to be that the negative effects from vaping develop MUCH more quickly than smoking cigarettes. The increased likelihood of young people using these Juuls creates a pretty serious public health concern, and undoubtedly contributes to the severity and long-lasting effects that vaping/juuling has.

Over eight months, Olfert and his colleagues exposed animal models to four hours of this e-cigarette base solution, five days a week. “That’s the equivalent of 25 years in humans,” Olfert said. The research team exposed other models to cigarette smoke for the same duration. A third group of models served as a control and was exposed to clean air.

How is that good science?

My conclusion after perusing the research on vaping?

It's bad for you, but not nearly as bad pound for pound as cigarettes. Ppl might end up inhaling more and more often which counteracts it being 'safer' but the conversation doesn't really get to that point because of the fear of being labeled as 'pro smoking/tobacco'. No one can expressly state the facts without fear of backlash for being perceived as implying 'vaping is as safe as breathing air', despite nothing of the sort is being implied whatsoever. And so the narrative of 'just as bad as smoking or worse!!!' continues.
