No, no, no, NO, NO, NO NO NO NO!

Take the god damn loss on the season, play the young guys, decide on your core guys, trade players mid-season if they show well and you can get net good picks, and get proper circulation going in this god damn system.

Only vets worth signing are the ones that will have a bit of value at the dead line. Vanek has shown that for how much he prduces and helps win games he doesnt get much trade value. Him helping the team win games isnt worth what he'll bring in at the deadline. Gritty, defensive 3rd line types that can play like a Daniel Winnik back in the day would bring more than Vanek

Shouldnt be signed.

I would trade nyquist/tatar(and others for that matter) for picks prospects and sign vanek and jagr

Yep.

1. Signing Vanek or Jagr means that we have traded some bigger contract (Nyquist/Tatar/Mrazek) away
2. Nyquist/Tatar/Mrazek will fetch some nice futures.
3. Trading those and signing Vanek or Jagr will make us worse = higher overall draft position
4. Then we trade Vanek/Jagr at the deadline = more lower picks.

Those are rebuilding, rebuilding and rebuilding moves.
