I'm in Alberta. I don't see Liquor in grocery stores or WalMart type places. Adjacent, separate building liquor stores exist, yes, but not in the same physical structure as grocery stores.

I didn't know you could buy it in other provinces grocery stores. Which other provinces?

I've never seen it in a Wal-Mart or Zellers, but I have often seen beer coolers in Newfoundland grocery stores. Also, quite often liquor stores in the province are located inside the buildings of Sobeys and Dominion(Loblaws) stores. And then there is always the option of going to the corner store or gas station.

Due to the sparse and remote population, it doesn't make sense for alcohol sales to be restricted to liquor stores or a single outlet. Many towns are hours from their nearest neighbour and have only a few hundred people anyway, so it just makes more sense to allow beer/alcohol sales in other venues, rather than open a liquor store in every cove and inlet of the Newfoundland coast.
