Maybe not full taxi squads, but it would not surprise me at all if they had something in place for a 3rd goalie to be available.

with the confidence that clark spoke in regards to him, i doubt it

Probably all depends on what the plan is for the goalies. If they want DiPietro to get a massive amount of games in, which they should after essentially robbing him of a season by keeping him on the taxi squad last year, then Silovs is probably ECHL-bound just to get game action.

Is Ian Clarke consulted on every goalie transaction now?
Well, he's obviously a big influencer in any goalies the Canucks draft; so stands the reason that he'd have a big say in the pro goalies they acquire like Spencer Martin.

I mean Ian Clark is probably the best goaltending coach and training guru in the NHL, so why wouldn't you use him when it comes to trading for a guy in goal from another team?

Yes - based on the way Benning explained the responsibilities of the Director of Goaltending position. Of course being consulted does not mean 'agreeing to' or 'signing off' every decision.

He is the director of goaltending ...

Yeah, safe to say that Ian Clarke is consulted before any goaltenders are acquired by the organization.

I’m surprised that Benning couldn’t find a way to give up a pick or at least downgrade one in the deal. Maybe he really is getting better at this GM thing after seven years.

I'd assume Clark is brought in on all goaltending decisions, not with the final say necessarily, but why not get his opinion when he would know more than anyone else about them? Also wouldn't be surprised if that kind of elevation in role was part of what was offered to keep him here when things looked uncertain (and maybe after Brackett left management was sensitive to how much that would matter in keeping someone like Clark).

The Martin deal makes sense on several levels, it's virtually free (can't seem to find confirmation on this, but does future considerations literally mean just that, we'll figure something out, not anything with specific parameters like if he plays 30 games or extends his contract then you get a 6th, otherwise you get a 7th kind of thing?), he brings experience so we don't have two kids in net in Abbotsford, it allows Silotov to go to the ECHL to get more games than he would behind DiPietro, and if this season goes to the crapper then we could sell off Halak at the deadline, call up one of DiPietro/Martin to back up Demko for the remainder of the year and call up Silotov to replace the spot in Abbotsford.

And if Clark can work his magic and make something of Martin then that's just gravy.

Looks look our pro goaltender situation is set. Then we've got Thiessen and Koskenvuo as prospects to watch.

It looks like Martin has been playing behind a bad defense the past couple of years. He's pretty replacement level at the AHL level though.

Yeah, he looks like pure system filler, which makes sense. Lightning had an extra goalie in the system and the Canucks needed another body.

Contract spots have value too. TBL is now at 47/50.
With draft picks needing to be signed, and needing to leave room incase they want to add before TDL.

I'm glad Benning still has more contract slots left too.

He was actually decently touted. Lots of goaltenders drafted ahead of him but he seemed to have had a decent chance of developing into an NHL goalie based on his draft year scouting report. He does seem to have the tools that Clark likes in a goalie. He also had a 68 save shutout performance one time to avenge a defeat by the parent King in one of the NHL games he played. There are youtube clips of him being scored on by the Kings. A lot of the goals he allowed weren't his fault. There was one I felt he should of had. He is likely just a pure system filler like you said

If he is nothing, he is nothing.
But if our goalie guru can turn him into an asset that we can flip for a mid round pick, that would be great.

And pre-emptive

"Benning doesn't know what he is doing, credit all goes to Ian Clark!"

Mad AF they couldn't get him the win tonight but at the same time it should give the Canucks confidence to trade Halak for something of value if they decide to avoid the 10-game bonus cap hit.

Moving Halak now works nicely, because they can recover a future asset and alleviate cap issues for next season ahead of the deadline (without losing much competitiveness) while they continue to put pressure on wildcard teams over the next month.
