He's pretty rock solid, 3.25 for a depth forward isn't insane. Benning likes his leadership guys, and with three back to back calder noms I can't understand the critics of the culture he has built. No one drafts that well, he is doing something right. Once the dead weight of "foundational" players is lifted, Canucks will be a contender. Does anyone really doubt that?

Look up, observe the sky, what colour is it, report back.

Might be a good idea to read this thread. Canucks are pressed right up against that 81.5 mill with a lot of holes to fill.

There are plenty of cap space, play with the buyout calculator and you will see that there are lots of options.

Any roster player that is bought out, the team needs to spend cap space to replace that spot before they have move any cap savings to someone else. And the players the Canucks would consider buying out have either SB or front loaded contracts.

Canucks will be able to sign the RFA but there will be no cap space to make improvements. With Pearson’s signing all other spots after Petey and Hughes get signed will be low price deals.

I'm not going to discuss this with you if you don't look at the options of buyouts. Eriksson and Holtby can be bought out easily to make cap space.

Buyout Roussel and Virtanen also would increase cap space.

There are lots of options for the team.
Baertchi, Spooner, Luongo is off this year.

And if Beagle cannot return, that's more cap space.

Owner refused to spend money on a buyout last offf season.

so, will see if he is willing to do so this off season.

Just so much poor spending. Pay Sven $10 mill but keep him on the roster for 1 year.
Idea of paying Holtby like $3.4 mill this year then another $3 odd mill in a buyout for 1 season?

Benning once he locks into a ufa will pay whatever to secure their services. That’s how he’s been in his time in Vancouver.

Do you have a remote idea what you are talking about? Buying out Eriksson means a cap hit of 4M next season 1M after that. If we don’t buy him out, it’s 5M (because he would be on the taxi squad) that’s only 1M of cap hit being deferred.

Holtby is definitely a buy out candidate if not picked up by Seattle.

Because it wasn't a good cap decision to do the buy outs last season, buy outs happening at different times have different results.

You are assuming there is a taxi squad next season. And that deferred million is a lot easier to swallow.

It's blue today, great weather. Currently a starry night. Did you know that if you put up your thumb to the night sky at an arms length, you will block out more than ten million galaxies? Cool, glad you brought up the sky on a hockey forum, so enlightening.
