but he's stated something along the lines of wanting to 'insulate' the young players with veterans in order to create a 'winning culture' that the youth can inherit and 'learn to play the right way' from the older guys.

That was the case with the Sedins playing on the top line. This will be the first year where that isn't the case. Its time Benning updates his script.

Remember, TO overpaid for Matt Martin when they started their rebuild.

Martin was/is the toughest fighter in the league and overpaid for that one specific purpose. They've never overpaid for players who kill penalties in a 4th line role. Instead they brought in overpriced players with a few contract years left to fill out the lineup and were usually compensated for it (Winnik, P.A. Parenteau, Grabner, Matthias, Greening, Laich, etc). There are dozens of players across the league who could fill the role of the players signed today minus the long term deals.
Benning should be taking on overpaid contacts for additional draft picks.

Despite this, Roussel hit a new career high in points this season. Looks like he’s earning his contract so far

He's been awesome and an absolute pain in the *** for other teams as usual. Hope it's not too serious.
