New thread to discuss the Raptors.

Former thread: Raptors Discussion: - v90| Fighting through the injuries (but not Coronavirus. NBA Suspends season until further notice)

***********************MOD NOTE (as of Aug 27)***********************

    Note posted by The Nemesis

The following Moderator Note was posted on the morning of August 27, 2020 in response to goings on in this thread resulting from discussion of NBA players' decision to boycott playoff games in the wake of ongoing social movements and protests.

In the interest of not having a lengthy post at the top of each page, it has been put in spoiler tags.

Please read it if you have not done so already.

Every poster will be assumed to have read it if they continue to participate in this thread from the time this warning was posted and beyond.

If you've visited this thread over the past few days and are doing so again right now you've no doubt noticed there are a lot of posts missing with regards to the boycotting of games.

HF's rules are and have been for a long time that there is no political talk permitted except in instances where the subject matter has a hockey-related context to validate discussion (and only in the context of those hockey-related matters). While one could argue that "hockey-related" can be expanded to "basketball-related" in a permitted thread about basketball and not hockey, the contextual requirement remains.

What started as a basic discussion on the nature of the boycotting of games and impact on the league quickly escalated into political screeds of a much broader and less sport-related scope.Value judgements of political movements and stances, calls to support/not support the league based on their chosen political ideology, comparative judgements of other sports leagues based on social response or responsibility, or outright and wholly political talk about political issues with basically only "it's what we're already talking about here" ties to even tether them to the concept of other sports. And that invited comments that violated other rules such as flaming or offensive content (which is why political talk has generally been forbidden across most/all of HF: because people can't handle it maturely enough to avoid it getting messy)

In short, an inch was given and people took a mile. And in many cases a grossly inappropriate mile. And in some cases there seemed to be a belief that the existence of such content was tantamount to condoning it when the reality is more likely that the moderators have been distracted by other things and this thread flew under the radar over the last day or so.

To that end, all political discussion over the last few days has been removed as disallowed, as per HF rules. Comments specifically about the boycott and how it might impact the remainder of the playoffs going forward have remained, but only if they had no political slant to them whatsoever. Yes this means some relatively benign posts that had mild political undertones have been removed, but leaving even a small amount which could restart discussion or invite "you deleted X but not Y" complaints wasn't an option.

Moving forward there will have to be no tolerance for discussions of a political nature. Any further political posts will be removed. Anyone who violates the rules will also have to be removed from the thread. It's drastic and draconian, but the way things went over the last day or so kind of prove it's necessary if people aren't willing to stay in bounds. And HF, as a privately owned and operated business, is allowed to set whatever rules on conduct and content it wishes. If that includes disallowing political talk, then that's what the rules will be. I have to enforce them, and you have to abide by them.

Sorry everyone. This is the way it has to be. I apologize for the long post and the aggressive restrictions. I don't generally like doing this sort of thing. But it reached a point where it was necessary. I hope it won't be any more necessary moving forward.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

There is almost certainly not a lot of Canadians in Florida right now in the middle of a pandemic and with the borders closed. No team has anything resembling home court advantage though maybe with the exception of Orlando/Miami.

Is the NBA following the same schedule as the NHL or are they finishing the regular season?

They're playing some games, and perhaps some playins. here's a link: Everything you need to know about the 2019-20 NBA season restart | NBA.com

From the little I watched last night, OG sure looks good. Makes me think we might have a shot at repeating, albeit a long one.

Celtics lost to the Bucks today, important game since Celtics schedule is pretty easy from this point on.

It's funny to watch Lebron appeal calls that don't go his way to a non-existent crowd.

Watching this game, the Raptors defense is scary good. I only follow Raptors boxscore wise in the regular season and watch playoff games but watching this game I didnt think they could be such a stand put defensive team.

Anthony Davis was held to 7 shot attempts and had 2 made field goals. The Raptors hardly got broken down off the dribble and their interior players are great at switching and playing help defense.

I didnt like our offense the first half and siakam struggled this game but man we have some nasty shot creators. FVV and Lowry were taking the Lakers off the dribble with ease. The Lakers didnt have anyone who could guard them on the perimeter tonight. OG doesnt have a flashy game from what I saw but he had 20+ and guarded lebron to a 20 pt sub 50% fg game. Hell of a performance from the Raptors. If the Raptors beat the bucks they're winning the NBA championship again. The Lakers and clippers(going for them from the west) will struggle against the Raptors defense

Why do people continue to under estimate this team? Massive win.

OG with 23 points on 8/9 shooting, alongside lockdown D on LeBron.

This kid is primed for a big time breakout in the playoffs.

Also, Kyle Lowry may be my favourite player in any sport ever. He will take all kinds of punishment if it helps his team win. I don't usually like when people call players winners, it's a boring cliche, but if Lowry doesn't play winning basketball, I don't know who does.

This goes back to the Casey Derozan years. Lebron clearly respects the Raptors. It's why he always gives it his all against them.

Lowry may just be my favorite Toronto sports athlete. What a player and what a character leader. I know I criticize him sometimes when he has a bad game, but thats because I know he is so much better then that.
    Amazing person and player.

That offensive foul he took on Lebron was totally a charge, but the NBA calls fouls based on the name on the back of the jersey.

Great showing from Lowry last night. Was also really impressed with OG; glad to have him healthy for this run!

OG's improvement is a big reason why I believe we can win it all again. So excited that this is actually happening!

So Terence Davis has now gone from peddling anti-vax conspiracy theories to wearing a mask with a f***ing hole in it.

Seriously, Masai and Bobby need to sit his ass down and have a serious talk with him.

Keep him away from the team until he takes this seriously.

Last thing we need is him f***ing up this run for the team.

Raptors showing their grit and tenacity beating the Lakers while not playing their A game, Lowry is such a beast and OG is the future and this teams defense has me speechless at times. Lebron worked for everything he had and AD got straight up SHUT DOWN, also very disappointing to see Terence Davis act like this, he needs to be sat down and talked to.

He's had alot of things not go his way which impeded his progress (father passing, injuries, appendicitis) this dude is a big part of the teams future though, he's fearless and he's a dog defensively.
