Raptors win a game 1, LeBron loses a first round game 1.

It's THAT type of year.

it actually shouldnt have even been that close..i watched start to finish and they were straight dummied. 3rd quarter they got closer becuase the pacers turned the ball over every other possesion for like 8 minutes. cleveland is in trouble!

Even the Wizards at least showed some gumption everytime they fell behind until the last 2-3 minutes.

Cavs never even LED- Wizards actually had a few leads.

So Houston had some problems with the 8th seed Minnesota last night. I thought that Houston is on some kinda other level than the Raps? That's why all this crowning of Houston and criticizing of Toronto is so biased.

I watched the whole Pacers game too - Cavs were helped by the refs as well; phantom screen on Booker when he put Crawford or Hill on their ass. Then the football style moving screen by LBJ under the Pacers bucket while his man was driving to the net - refs almost willed the Cavs back in it.

Oledipo torched them with his speed; something every team the Cavs play should take note. Even when they doubled up on him to get him to give up the ball, he split the double, or passed it off to his teammates for open looks. Speed kills the Cavs, and they play horrible transition defence as well.

Loved seeing LBJ getting hammered by Lance Stephenson on the two-shots plus technical play - should have been a flagrant one, but Lance is one tough mofo who talks as much trash to LBJ as anyone in the league.

Really hoping the Pacers pull off the upset.

Even if Cavs win, I hope this is a long series. Tire them out a little. LBJ is 33 and played lots of ball. He has to show signs of fatigue at some point, right? RIGHT?

Crawford and Rose were huge for Minny. The Beard did his thing, but if he ever went down for whatever reason, they would be toast. HOU have zero depth beyond their starting 5.

He is a machine. If his team mates could actually hit open shots when he fed them off a double, they would be in every game. I can't believe Indiana put Bogdonavich on him to cover, but he actually did a decent job considering. Make LBJ a perimiter shooter, keep him out of the lane where he's going to get his reputation calls - McMillan had a great game plan!

For once it would be nice if we could finish off Wash quickly while Cleveland goes 7 games.

Can anybody explain the NBA playoff bracket system? If the Raptors and Cavs win, they play each other regardless of the other bracket. Even if on the other side the 6th and 7th place teams advance, which isn't completely out of the question given Boston's injuries and Philly's inexperience. Why does the NBA do it this way? Is there an official reason?

I understand the NHL's system of emphasizing divisional match ups (with the wild card cross overs in the event of those years when teams in one division are better than the other).

The NBA likes to start playoff rounds before the previous round is entirely complete. So if one first round series goes seven games, they might start some round 2 series before game 7. A fixed bracket makes that possible.

I agree that not reseeding in the second round is crazy though.

CP3 missed 24 games, Anderson missed 16, Ariza 15, Gordon 13, Harden 10, and Capela 8, but they still had the best record in the league. Their bench is one of the best in the league, but their starters (they were missing Anderson yesterday btw) are by far the most effective lineup in basketball.

2018 Playoffs: Game 2 Preview - Raptors vs. Wizards | Toronto Raptors
2018 Playoffs: Game 2 Preview - Raptors vs. Wizar

Washington Wizards (0-1) @ Toronto Raptors (1-0)
When: Tuesday, April 17th, 7:00 P.M. ET
Where: Air Canada Centre
Broadcast info: NBA TV, TSN, TSN1050
LAST MEETING

The Raptors took a 1-0 series lead following a 114-106 victory in the series opener on Saturday. Toronto had six players reach double figures, led by Serge Ibaka's 23 points and 12 rebounds and Delon Wright's 18 points (including 11 in the fourth quarter). After the Raptors got off to a strong start, they led by five at the end of the first quarter. Washington had a strong second quarter, outscoring Toronto 36-27, to take a halftime lead, but Toronto went into the fourth ahead by one. In the final quarter, Wright's 11 points and a pair of three-pointers from C.J. Miles led the Raptors offensively as Toronto pulled away to snap a streak of 10 consecutive Game 1 losses.
LEADING INTO TONIGHT'S GAME

Injury report: For the Raptors, Fred VanVleet is questionable with a bruised right shoulder. For the Wizards, Jodie Meeks is not with the team as he serves a league suspension.
From deep: The Raptors doubled up the Wizards on three-pointers in Game 1. While the Wizards shot 8-for-21 (38 percent) from beyond the arc, Toronto connected on 16-of-30 attempts (53 percent) from downtown. All 12 of C.J. Miles points came from beyond the arc, where he connected on 4-of-7 attempts, while Serge Ibaka shot 3-for-4 from three. The 16 three-pointers were a playoff franchise-high for Toronto.
Leading the way: In the regular season, the Raptors were a perfect 8-0 in games where Serge Ibaka scored at least 20 points. This streak continued into the postseason, as Ibaka had a fantastic Game 1 effort, leading Toronto with 23 points, 12 rebounds, an assist and two blocked shots. Ibaka shot 8-for-11 from the floor, 3-for-4 from three, and 4-for-4 from the free throw line in 33 minutes.
EXTRA ASSISTS

11th man: Coaches shortening their rotations in the postseason isn't anything new. It's what is expected to happen in the playoffs. This year, Dwane Casey is deviating from the norm in sticking with the players who helped Toronto get to the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Casey played 11 players in Game 1, with nine players logging at least 15 minutes of action.
Bench mob: The Raptors bench opened the postseason as it performed the entire regular season. Toronto reserves combined to score 42 points in Saturday's Game 1 victory, doubling the output of Washington's reserves, who combined for 21 points. In the regular season, Toronto's "bench mob" averaged 41.8 points per game (4th in the NBA). Despite Fred VanVleet's absence in Game 1 because of a bruised shoulder, the bench still hit its average. With Washington focused on DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, their teammates were ready to step up an help secure the victory.
Ready for battle: Though the Raptors came away victorious in Game 1, they're preparing for a hungry Washington team on Tuesday night. "Tomorrow night's game is going to be one of the toughest we've played," Dwane Casey said. "They're a talented team, well-coached team, they're not your typical 8 seed, and they're going to come out breathing fire."
