We pulled the trigger on firing Klinsmann to quickly. He was dragging us kicking and screaming into the 21st century, but had to get all provincial.
Klinsmann was a f***ing fool who did more damage to the USMNT and its future than anyone before or since. He should have been given the heave-ho as soon it was made clear he had no interest whatsoever in anything MLS, because by publicly disparaging it and anyone associated with it the way he did, he crippled the talent pool by teaching a generation of potential soccer players that they were better off picking any other sport because they only got to matter if they moved halfway across the world, independent of whether or not they were good enough to compete. That crap might play in a place where soccer is king and there aren't any other major competing sports to play, but not in North America.

Wrong. Klinsmann started in 2011, at that time Pulisic was 11, Sargent was 11, McKennie was 13, that's the generation you are referring to in this, and there is a lot of potential in that group.

The generation that is failing us is the one that is older than that one that was already through a lot of the youth development to the point that they already decided on soccer.

Those are the guys who showed up regardless, and they're not enough. It's everyone else that could have considered soccer but didn't because of that "to hell with MLS" attitude.

Take the age group between them and I guess Altidore or Bradley, how many of them are actual quality starters? The issues with development were there before Jurgen.

Soccer didnt lose potential American soccer players because of the attitude of Klinsmann toward MLS. Anyone considering playing for the USMNT or at that high of level understands where MLS is/was on the world stage. USMNT loses far more because of the current hierarchy's lack of Latin recruitment; players have continued to be pushed away from the program . Klinsmann didnt really care where the players came from league wise, he just wanted the players he had to pick from to play in the best league available which 100% of the time is not MLS.

Yes. Yes they were. And they needed to be solved, and they were in the process of being solved, and he thoroughly sabotaged those efforts by actively shunning our domestic league and anyone who ever associated with it - previously proven or otherwise.

Yes he did. He made it quite clear on multiple occasions that he only cared about European leagues. He actively demonstrated it when he started snubbing players returning to MLS and spoke out vociferously against them doing so, even though that was an absolutely vital step to getting domestic soccer better credibility. And you need to do that, otherwise it'll never improve and the player pool will stay stagnant, because - and I know this is a bit of a shocker, but bear with me here - North American pro sports players aren't used to having to move across the world to compete among the best, and so you're already facing an uphill recruiting battle.

"Alright we think you will be a great fit for our youth coaches. But we will need you to uproot your family and live a place that's not cheap to live to coach our u16 team where we don't have any facilities and its cold as **** in the winter. Oh and also we're considering moving out of Chicago in a few years so you'll have to move again when that happens. So you in?" God our federation is so incompetent.

It's just silly. These coaches aren't making significant 6 figures, so financially, it's stupid to move when the job doesn't have high security, and many wouldn't want to be away from their families too. You can have a main hub in smaller countries in Europe because they are the size of a single state, but it's impossible to do in the US without eliminating many candidates who just won't bother getting involved.

To me, you have to break it down by region. And to act like you can't have those regional teams playing the same style and coaching the same way is just absurd.

Not long before G.Reyna will be in the lineup, he is probaly already good enough.
Not Ohio enough for Berhalter. Will prob have to wait behind a MLS player like Sargent is stuck behind Zardes. Just because.

There hasn't been any National Team games since he got his debut. Let's wait until March before we criticize Berhalter for something that there might not be reason to be critical of him about.

Berhalter does not deserve the benefit of the doubt. He has not earned that by any metric.

I'm willing to be patient on Gio. He's only getting his first few games with Dortmund. If it starts to become consistent in minutes then you start to look at him. Looking at the final roster for the Costa Rica game I'm just thrilled Llanez and Araujo are there, especially Llanez.

I was very pleased with how they played today. First time in a while, but that may be the case that Costa Rica didn't play a high pressing game. Llanez looked the part and surprised me with how comfortable he looked. Didn't know much about Vines, but he looked decent.
