And Fox is already on board.

Do you even try to relaunch the XFL at this point?

Part of me wonders if it should be the other way around.

The rumours of this CFL-XFL partnership/new league (should it happen at all) is to launch spring 2023. so now the new USFL wants to launch to get ahead of them with less than a year to kick off.

The AAF did this in response to XFL 2.0 and didn't need a pandemic to shut down during their first season.

Be nice if one of these spring leagues had a coherent plan lately.

I would like to see some of the old team names back. God the XFL branding is so bland this time around.

If spring football in the USA is ever going to succeed I don’t think it can afford two competing leagues. Need stability.

plus they need to be playing in MLS sized stadiums of 22/25k capacity not in 70k nfl stadiums. Need that ambience.

TSN football insider Dave Naylor gave his takes on today's news

Either employees at the Spring League (which is the current form) are tight lipped or they have no clue what's going on. Likely some NDAs signed too.

That’s why every league that tries ends up folding.
Yeah, due to bad luck. The AAF folded to money. The XFL would still be around if not for a pandemic.

Investors are seeing there is a future in spring footy. Why do you think the Spring Game is on FOX now every weekend? In addition to that, USFL is coming back, and the XFL was so inspired by their 2nd run they are returning in 2022.

Spring football is good, not a bad thing.

There is no market for bad football, people will watch it a little but it will fizzle out

Every American football league other than the NFL and NCAA football has failed, and other than Arena Football pretty much all of them have failed in under 2 years

Yet investors keep throwing money behind it

USFL 1.0 would have been fine if a certain greedy owner didn’t talk other idiots into moving it to fall out of wanting to attack the NFL for his own interests. Everyone’s been chasing that initial USFL success since.

Does Woods and Fox have the rights to use the USFL and team rights to use those names?

Does the new USFL have the legal right to call itself the USFL? - ProFootballTalk

From Steve Ehrhart, a former USFL executive director

*Erhart contends that the USFL still exists, and that league officials still get monthly royalty checks. Brian Woods has resurrected the USFL, with FOX as the broadcaster and equity partner.
“We were only around three seasons, but the USFL was a classy, well-respected name,” Erhart said. “We always said that we didn’t want to just jump in there and sell it to somebody who was going to be underfunded and blow up and give a halfway kind of effort. So we never did give or sell or authorize the rights to anybody.”

The XFL was not coming back. Fox and ESPN were both going to drop them because they weren’t drawing ratings. The pandemic just let Vince save face, which he then tanked because he tried to sue Oliver Luck.

Spring football I believe can work under the right business model. Fox airs the spring league because of content. You see how committed they are to it by trying to start another league. But the notion that there are millions of people waiting with baited breath for spring football to work doesn’t exist because of it did, it would already be there.

If he would’ve been patient it would’ve worked too.

According to Mike Mitchell of Fanside, Fox was waiting on the XFL

After announcing their talks with the CFL, they announced a delay to their restart. Wonder if they reached out to the Spring League or the other way around. XFL more likley to restart in 2023 depending on how these talks go.

That's the Rock's XFL. Not Vince's XFL.
