Is it accurate?

USA Today Salaries Database - Hockey 2005-2006

It's probably accurate, but still pretty useless since:

1. It's last season's salaries, not this years.

2. It is (like most NHL salary sites) the player's actual salaries, not their cap hits.

I had hopes that the USA Today site would be different - for their NFL salary database, they do break out Salary and Cap Hit seperately.

A much better site - HF Boards own Irish Blues site:

Listed on the front page of the database (some points highlighted for emphasis):
2005-06 figures are for salaries only and not the players' salary cap numbers for the year. If a player retired in midseason, was sent to the minors, spent significant time on the injured list or had signed a multiyear contract with a lower average salary, his cap number would be lower. Also, traded players' entire salaries are listed with their final team, even though some of their salary would have counted against their original team's cap number. That is why some teams' total payrolls are more than the upper limit of $39 million for 2005-06.

Some players listed may have received less than what is listed if they had two-way contracts and spent some time in the minor league.

Total team payroll and median salaries will not reflect salaries of players who played fewer than 30 games.
