I am looking more forward to the women's match then the men's. Yesterday's matches were so choky they were painful to watch.
One was not like the other. Zve - Busta was one of the weakest slam semis I've ever seen. Thiem - Med, however, proved worthy of the occasion.

Just got home from a bday party with a petting zoo. Really looking forward to watching the only final I'll probably watch. Should be a great match. Former #1 & 2 time major champ Vika is tough, but I think Osaka will prevail.

Medvedev was so awful in the semifinal. Couldn't keep the ball in the court, extend more than a few rallies.

And every slice from him looks so laboured. Hard to watch.

People who think that contemporary tennis is the peak of the sport need to see more matches like that one.

Vika absolutely on fire, up 4-1 with two breaks as Osaka sputters to start the engine.

Just about everything she hit went right where she wanted it. She made Osaka look like a qualifier that set, 6-1.

The carnage continues in the second set, 2-love.

2-1 as Osaka momentarily anyway stops the bleeding. Has she finally engaged is the question.

Osaka may finally be awake, 3-3. I still like her chances, though I have been wrong all tournament.

She must have heard me, now up a break at 4-3.

Now Naomi's turn to be on fire. Serving first in the deciding set, too.

An amazing against-all-odds break by Vika evens the set improbably 4-3 back on serve.

But Osaka responds and takes the match and the championship. Very entertaining and a testimony to the skill and grit of both players.

I won't have time to see all of it but I'm really hoping Thiem wins and that neither of them play choky, pushy tennis.

This tournament is ass backwards with judging the lines and I can't be anything but highly amused.

All outer courts used Hawkeye, but everything on the stadium courts is done by human line judges which forces players to use unnecessary challenges.

Thiem starts super nervy. This is going to be a quick set for Zverev.

Showing a lot of variety and serving extremely well, Zverev takes the first set 6-2 in 29 minutes. I wasn't expecting that and I don't think Thiem was either.

Sascha gets another early break, 2-1. He looked tentative in the first game, but really went for his shots in the third game for his break.

Zvverev relied almost exclusively on his serve to consolidate the break, but the nerves are beginning to show. It feels like just a matter of time before he cracks. Thiem isn't exactly helping his own cause, though.

Thiem coughs up a second break, 4-1. Zverev may not get a chance to self-destruct because Thiem has beat him to it all match.

Hard to believe, but quality of play this set is worse than the first set as both players struggle to keep the ball in play.

I really hope Denis keeps working on his mental game. He can leap frog over some of these guys who are older than him because there is so much mental fragility.
