Eh.... doesn't wow me, but I don't see him as a dumb x's and o's guy to me either. Probably will be a middling guy in the NFL, which would be basically an improvement for Jacksonville.

I don't see him as being the guy that you'd pin your hopes to, though.

Don’t agree about the first couple of years. Urban is there to program-build. Something we’re seeing a lot more of. But everyone’s expectations bring what they are, he ain’t showing up to go 5-11.
No but he also doesn't have to win 10+ games or make the playoffs. They were 1-15 this year after all. No one should expect them to be much better than 5-11 if they're being honest with themselves, this includes Urban himself, Urban skeptics, Jags fans, etc.

Jimmy Johnson made the jump from college to the NFL after putting together a 52-9 record with a 1987 national title at Miami

Jimmy was given far greater control over the team than what Meyer is likely to get.

Yeah, at least in the NFL there is sortof an offseason. No recruiting or spring practices etc.

I still think he will be horrible in the NFL, so full agreement here.

The big thing is that he'll only be an HC in the NFL. In college, he would be running several positions at once.

I dont see this ending well, especially with the owner saying he will be the gm. He gets Trevor Lawrence though.

At lest he knows Trevor's skill set.

This was almost guaranteed to happen the moment it became clear they'd won the Lawrence sweepstakes.

Khan has to step aside from football ops and hire the best GM possible. Or at least not Farmer, as some have reported.

I hope Lawrence pull Lindros. He deserves better.

Very uncommon for NFL players to do so. It really pisses off the OBC.

Manning got away with it somewhat because of that whole "mystique" around the Manning Family. Plus he forced his way to the Giants who's owner are obviously very influential.

Khan not really part of the OBC so he might be able to do it.

And its the Jaguars.

Texas boosters gotta be big mad
Haha, he might actually be doing them a favor on the way to the Jags if he takes Corey Dennis (his son-in-law and primary recruiter of Quinn Ewers) with him to Jacksonville which people are expecting.

What is OBC in this context?

He had a problem with players speaking out in college. This is a different world, the Tom Coughlin approach just can't work anymore. He needs to delegate and just manage the managers.

Is Ewers related to the Tiger King by chance?

The NFL is not a year-to-year league and hasn’t been for a long time, and Urban has never been a year-to-year coach. Immediate turnarounds is what he does.

The Colts were supposed to go through 2-3 years of rebuild as the 2-14 team revealed how big a disaster the roster was and how Peyton Manning covered it up. They went 11-5 each of the following 3 years.

The Chiefs were likewise 2-14 after years of being a dead franchise in 2012. They haven’t had less than 9 wins since, including also going 11-5 the following year.

Make good decisions and anyone can do it.

Rumor was he would use Linehan as his OC and Strong as his DC

While some of them have no NFL exp (Strong for one?) Linehan is a well known OC in the NFL from his time with the Cowboys as well as other clubs

Strong sounds like he is going to be linebackers coach. That’s perfectly fine.
