So how many openers will the Bruins be a part of? Four, including their own? That's a lot. I'm just guessing but I would think the players don't like lengthy pregame ceremonies such as opening night. There's a lot of downtime. Guys get warmed up, then cool down, then have to go out and play.

As a Canadian, I love the Columbus Day/CDN Thanksgiving game. It's kind of like my Thanksgiving NFL day.......but better.

The Washington ceremony will be a lot for the Bruins to have to sit through, what with the banner raising - that said, two teams have to do it every year. Over the past 3-4 years, the downtime for the Bruins home opener hasn't been that severe...it's maybe an extra 10 minutes max, and basically consists of all 20 Bruins going though some cheesy LED signs that they erect temporarily by the Olympia doors. Heck, playoff games have more of a delay. And both teams have the exact same delay waiting to play.

That said, the energy is definitely a bigger deal - the crowd for the "welcome back" game has to be a little louder, and that's got to help pump up the home team more.

The energy is going to be completely different. There’s going to be way more kids than normal for an opening game.

I'm really annoyed by this. Talk about starting the season off on a sour note.

Exactly. Should be a great time. Pumped for your home opener, and surrounded by a family of seven that won't stop taking, whining, crying, taking selfies/family potraits or apologizing as they pass for their 4 bathroom/snack stand breaks per period.

Plus if you have a three day weekend off, who wants to trek into the city on a Monday afternoon?

Anyone else find it weird the Bruins have only three games in the March 9-27th stretch? League trying to atone for screwing the B's with last March's schedule?

NVM, Saw this was the HOME schedule. Must be away games in those gaps. Time for more coffee.

This is the NHLOL...

Couldn't they simply just push the time back?

I assume Rogers pressures the NHL to have a Canadian team play in the afternoon on Canadian Thanksgiving.

The other problem is that the Garden is booked solid in early October. Our first two games are literally the only two possible first two home games. It would push our home opener to over a week into the season, which isn't optimal, I suppose.

But Fenway's right - switching home ice for 10/8 and 10/23 wouldn't be tough. Canadian Tire Centre and TD Garden are both free on both days, assuming the NBA doesn't want to schedule the Celtics on 10/23.

NHL schedulers on the ball. This league can't get out of its own way with brutal decisions.
Id like to know if they purposely do this every year or it is just one big coincidence. Feels like Boston always plays Montreal on second days of back to backs or needs some handicap before facing that putrid bunch of toilet seats.

Anyone have any advice on a Bruins calendar to add to my iPhone? I’d like:

1). Separate home/away calendars
2). No alarms
3). Ability to edit
4). No typing in 82 games

The official Bruins calendar sucks - figured out how to delete notifications, but no way to turn off/on the home/away games separately

Team president Cam Neely said Wednesday that the team “made it clear” to the league that last year’s schedule was too taxing. It seems his camp was heard.

This year’s slate of games, made public Thursday by the NHL, seems a bit friendlier.

Instead of 16 games in March and 21 games in 39 days from March 1 on, the Bruins get a bit of a break: 15 games in March, and a closing stretch of 18 in 37. Provided no bomb cyclones force a squeezed-in makeup date, the Bruins could be a bit more rested for the postseason.

They’ll get their NHL-mandated five-day break ahead of All-Star weekend, which is Jan. 25-27 in San Jose. In total, that’s nine days without a game, Jan. 20-28. Last year’s break was Jan. 8-12.
