Expired CBA UFA rules are players listed with "UFA", "III", and "V" or players UFA/III/V before CBA expired
If new CBA is 30 years old for UFA, cutoff should be June 30, 1975
If new CBA is 29 years old for UFA, cutoff should be June 30, 1976
If new CBA is 28 years old for UFA, cutoff should be June 30, 1977

If new CBA was 28 for 2005/06, 322 players would be UFA

Rmember the proposals for Brendan Witt in exchange for Colaiacovo?

he could wind up being a UFA when all is said and done :biglaugh:

There are a lot of big names up there deffintly a bumper crop as far as UFA's are concerned and who knows what kind of cap we'll have when the NHL resumes play, it'll be interesting to see where players go and for how much.

To me it looks like every team will look much different then what they looked like when we last saw them.

What the NHL should do is impliment a loyalty clause into the new CBA; meaning they should do what the NBA does, and allow a player to sign with their team before any other team for more money. Basically allow their team to offer that player more money than any other team.

One of the most underrated problems with the NHL is that many of the teams don't have a face, a face you can recognize and associate with the team.

What about players like Iginla and Sakic, Blake etc ..

Msgr - Sakic and Blake signed 5-year contracts in July 2001 meaning this should be their last year on the deals. As for Iginla, his birthday is July 1, 1977 so it will be interesting to see what the NHLPA tries to get for the UFA cutoff date and age. It is doubtful the NHLPA wants to start UFA at 28 because it would flood the market.

Are some interesting names of players who were not expected to be UFA's before the lockout begun that might have already played their final games for their current team.

there's ltos of others but these are my personal favorites out of those listed.

I mean worst case scenerio playing Imagine if Montreal lost their captain and star goalie? or if the Oilers lost Smyth?

the Nucks and Devils would lose a lot of young talent too.

Now I know lots of these players would probably be re-signed but I'd be very interested to follow where these players go.

IF the new CBA has 28 as the new UFA age, then IMO it'll be phased in over the next season or two, to prevent the overflooding of the market. Like I posted elsewhere, that many UFA's on the market at once combined with everybody (assumedly) trying to stay under some kind of cap, means that a lot of players are going to drop in value, especially when you can get player X for about the same or a little more then player Y , who's just as good. Throw in the Group II's trying to get their qualifing offers, and there won't be much left to spend under a $40 mil. (or so) cap, even with a payroll rollback.

The free agens and RFA and players drafted in 2004 should be subject for the old CBA rules, meaning Iginla should remain a RFA. Also draft picks should remain on there teams. Thank god Sutter signed Phanuef.

If there is a cap, i really dont see the relevance of "flooding the market". If there's a cap, there is no marketplace. But the demand rises by an equal amount as the supply. All these teams have free agents to replace. The supply isnt really changing, its the same amount of players in the league. Just more demand

I bet FA's are just going to load up on certain teams to try and win the cup. A lot like Kariya and Selanne did with Colorado. Most players know they aren't going to get a huge contract because of the cap and the amount of FA's. A lot of players will probably take 1 year deals and get on teams together to try and win this year.

this could be kinda emberrassing forFlamrs GM darryl Sutter. He traded Gauthier and Saprykin for Langkow and may never get a game from him. The funny thing is that Langlow and Kipprisoff would fit the oilers nicely and they probably have the salary cap room to take a run at those two guys.

Not true...

Think the Oliers are going to demand the same amount of 4-5 million dollar players as the Avalanche? Think the Pens will go out and sign the same valued contracts as the Wings...

There are only so many teams willing to sign players to high dollar contracts....and while a cap will help close the gap.....

Say you are in a normal year and there are 2-5 30 goal scorers on the UFA market...

Those 2-5 guys will be in high demand... Toronto, Detroit, NYR, and Dallas will be at their door... the team losing the player might make a run... and in any given year there could be another 5-10 teams in the running... Their price will go up... and there will be teams willing to overpay.. even in a cap world..

Now look at it in a year where there could be as many as 20-30 30 goal scorers on the market.... Granted... there will be alot of openings.... but with a cap in place...teams like Colorado, Detroit, Toronto, NYR, ext will not be able to go out and spend on more than perhaps one or two of them combined.. Teams that have cap space... well.... there is a reason they have cap space... they don't give guys that score 30 goals 6-8 million dollars like the big spenders...thus their market value will go down.. and they will get alot of 3-4 million offers...

Point being.. that big market clubs had no problems sucking up the 2-3 big talents each year... now.. if you flood the market with semi-big talents.... their value will go down.... as the inflators will not be able to simply out bid the teams that would like to give them in the 3-4 million range....

Its not a bad thing for the league.. but the PA would get screwed by it..

why do you hate the NHL? because your team won't get to be ridiculously stacked anymore? you don't like that other fans will get to have a more competitive team to cheer for?

you're just spoiled. you and your buddies should go back to missing the playoffs for a couple years in a row so you can learn what other fans go through.

Why should they leave? They may reconstruct their contracts so they can stay with the Avs.

Ot doesnt mean that a player becoems UFA = he immediately signs somwhere else.
