Nick Bonino. Straight up he was the best player in the Pitts trade for Sutter.
I made the mistake of looking at the stats since the trade:
games/goals/point

Sutter: 232/45/92
Bonino: 362/74/161

And he is arguably better defensively. He never got the respect he deserved here.

and the sweetheart deal he was on, Benning just bailed pittsburgh out of their cap problems, and that 3rd line was absolute money on the way to the stanley cup for them.
Bonino outscored f''n Malkin in the playoffs for crying out loud.

That trade really gets me going.

Wade Brookbank. There were few players who brought so much excitement and drama prior to his first game as a Canuck. He brought some much needed fists to the lineup.

Watching a lot of 1982 game footage; Ivan Boldirev definitely doesn’t get talked about enough in the annals of Canucks history.

Wow. I have never watched him play and it's a name I have never heard about but looking at his stats he was an impressive player. How come he keeps being traded with Darcy Rota?

Yeah, pretty damn solid career. Very smooth skating with the puck on his stick, controlled zone entries and exits really well, and good offensive skills as well. On a lunch bucket team like the 1982 Canucks, his skill definitely makes him stand out.

When you watch old clips, you understand why his stickhandling was considered the best in the NHL at the time.

One of the more underrated terrible deals in franchise history is, after Boldirev got off to a bit of a slow start in 82-83, trading him for 4th line checker Mark Kirton and then watching him score 113 points in 108 games for Detroit over the next two seasons.

Not sure if his name has been brought up, but after watching some of the clips of the '94 playoff run, I'd say Greg (Gus) Adams was seriously underrated.

Scored some big goals and always went to the net hard....a solid, two-way winger.

Excellent player, but I never really perceived him as underrated.

I always consider Courtnall/Ronning/Adams as the #3-5 most important forwards on those 1991-94 Canuck teams after Bure and Linden, and consider the three of them to be at a roughly equal level. And all three from BC, interestingly, which is one of the things that made those teams so identifiable for me as a young fan.

I’ve always felt Adams was that era’s version of Alex Burrows. Always brought it in big game situations, scored clutch goals, was a decently gritty and surprisingly powerful guy - just a solid hockey player, if a little streaky during the regular season.

I think Geoff Courtnall was under appreciated. 1991 to 1995 Geoff Courtnall was the most clutch player on the Canucks. Even more clutch than Linden. From that time frame He had 61 P in 65 playoff games, 8 points in four game 7. Most game 7 points out of all the Canucks during that time frame, most elimination points as well. Led Canucks in playoff scoring in 1992 and 1994 playoffs. Scored the ot goal in the last game of 1991 regular season in ot to send the Canucks in the playoffs. I think Courtnall was also the leader in regular season ot goals before 4 on 4 started. Second leading regular season scorer in 1994, 3rd in 1993 and 1995.

After Bure, you can make an argument Courtnall was just as valuable as Linden. Ronning as well.

Ruutu-Linden-Lindgren was just an awesome fourth line for us.

People forget but in 03-04, the Canucks lost 2 forwards to career ending injuries (Arvedson and Lindgren), on top of the Bertuzzi thing. What could have been.

Lindgren, by the way, still lives in Vancouver.

lindgren i don't remember but i remember arvedson's brief run before his career ended. i feel like he planted the seed that the ideal third sedin might be a smart two-way role player, eventually leading AV to burrows.

which brings to mind another question: best random blip by a guy who never got going again?

Lonny Bohonos went 7-9-16 in the final 16 games of the 96-97 season on a line with Linden and Gelinas ... and was never given a chance again. Parked on the 4th line the following year and then traded.

It was doubly ridiculous given how bad the team’s scoring depth on the wings was on 1997-98.

Bohonos is one of the unluckiest players ever. Went to Toronto and scored 18 points in 22 games there but was never really given a proper chance either.

Dan Hodgson in 1987-'88 scored 10 points in his first 4 games after being recalled from the AHL, capping it off with a 5-point night against Pittsburgh where he scored the game-winner and outplayed Mario Lemieux in his prime.

After that, sadly, Hodgson went pointless in his next four games, broke his leg in a game against the Flames, and was out of the league within a year. Still.... what a blip.

By no means is he a clean player... but holy smokes did he make that 3rd line during the 2011 run. I’ve been rewatching the VAN/SJ WCF series this week & that guy was a force.
He was sorely missed the next season & honestly we never replaced his physicality.

Off topic but I think Game 4 is one of my all time favourite games. Ballard’s hip check, 3 5 on 3 goals, Hank’s between Niemi’s legs pass to Burr.

Adrian Aucoin is one of the most underrated defenders in NHL history, tbh. Guy was a legit #1 dman that became a journeyman because he played for terrible GMs that couldn't recognize his impact (Mike Milbury, Dale Tallon, Darryl Sutter, Don Moloney...). Multiple times over his career he was discarded by decent teams that all went on extended playoff droughts without him (Islanders, Flames, Coyotes).
His first Spittin' Chiclets episode was awesome too ‎Spittin Chiclets: Spittin' Chiclets Episode 148: Featuring Adrian Aucoin on Apple Podcasts
