The UMass team coach Greg Carvel was on Spittin Chiclets and discussed Jones specifically, said he was surprised that he went pro because he doesn't believe Zac is physically ready for the NHL. He said that he should've spent another year in college.

Other than that he has a lot of positive things to say obviously.

Video starts right when Zac Jones comes up:

coach is wrong, he needs any edge he can get to get ahead of the very tough competition. Staying in college for another free year of school is hedging, turning pro is swinging for a homerun.

Is there a reason he switched from Center to D? Can he still play Center?
He switched because he wanted to. He grew up playing hockey in Virginia, which isn't exactly a hotbed for youth hockey outside on NoVa. He wasn't a serious prospect until later in his amateur career so he was able to make those decisions without real consequence.

He's not a forward anymore. He's a defenseman. That's what he plays and he's not going to randomly switch back. If he can't find a spot on our team as a defenseman, he'll find a spot in someone else's organization as a defenseman.

Maybe Kravtsov can be our backup goalie so we don't have to pay Georgiev. I mean, he played goalie as a kid...

Season is over, let him play the last 10 games. He will still have to earn a spot in camp next year, but will be a good chance to see how he stacks up in the NHL, and give him stuff to look to improve on in the summer.
