Good for him, he deserves a HC job in the NHL. However, it's irritating that it HAS to be for another team in our division.

Gorton a candidate for PIT GM. Ulf a candidate for CAR HC. Grrr....

That would be unfortunate, but great for Ulfie. That's what happens to assistant coaches, no need to be upset when AV is a capable HC himself.

As for losing Gorton to Pitt, on the other hand....

I'm so sick and tired other teams taking coaches for teams I root for. Spags for the Giants and others in the pass. Now this. Like why weren't you interested BEFORE he was an assistant?

As I said in the Gorton thread:

Hopefully that compensation for lost employees thing happens soon.

what would that be? draft picks? money doesnt mean anything to the rangers. i dont think it would be fair to have to compensate another team for offering an assistant a promotion. i doubt any coach would appreciate that becoming a rule as well since it would hurt their chances at bettering themselves.

change the title. nothing is confirmed yet. there's no way they've even talked to Samuelsson at this point.

It has the "Speculation" tag in front of it. Are you viewing on mobile? I know the prefixes don't display on mobile. :)

FWIW, Ron Francis (new Canes GM) has said publicly that he is still interviewing multiple candidates. The decision is expected to be made before the draft, so you guys should know something almost immediately after the Rangers' last playoff game.

It’s a rebuild.
I bet Jordon and Eric won't be able to stand Ulfie's dirty antics. They will both give him the Tie Domi KO punch and then proceed on the next flight to the big apple to play with their brother Marc.

The Canes can keep Jarred as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, it'd be a draft pick. I saw it mentioned as something that could potentially happen in the Business forum. They'd be given a set time in which to give the compensatory pick (like the Kovalchuk punishment, in a way).

Instead of hurting teams with picks, the NHL should just give comp picks to teams that aren't stripping picks from other teams.

Never going to happen. The NHL did away with compensation for front office a few years back. Besides that, there was always a gentlemen's agreement that allowed individuals to leave for promotions (example - Benoit Allaire leaving Phoenix to come to NYR - promotion from Goalie Coach to Assistant Coach & Goalie Coach)

It's a completely necessary part of the NHL eco-system, and gives talent a chance throughout the league. And if they wanted, nothing stops the Rangers from counter-offing an obscene amount of money for a contract extension.

The Rangers have a boatload more resources than most teams, I'm not going to complain if a talented individual gets a promotion/chance.

^ Truth. Although seeing him go to a team in our on division leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
