Like the Champions League qualifying, the Europa League qualifying rounds will begin next week with the preliminary round already being completed. With the new format used by UEFA this will get even more confusing with more clubs involved as teams knocked out in the early stages of the CL enter the qualifying unlike previous years and those clubs will be separated from the rest of clubs into "champions path" and "league path". Also clubs from the "bigger" leagues start their campaigns earlier, such clubs as RB Leipzig, Burnley, Fiorentina and Sevilla will begin their Euro campaigns in late July, before any of their seasons start

Then and there
So, Gerrard won his first competitive match as Rangers manager. Got the second goal late in the game to give them some breathing space for the 2nd leg.

Some quality scenes in the Faroe Islands as Hibs, who won the first leg 6-1, are currently drawing 4-4 with NSI Runavik.

Bit foggy looking, mind.

And if you're wondering how a team can concede five goals over two legs to some Faroese postmen, it's none other than Liverpool loanee Adam Bogdan in goals for Hibs.

Good start for the SPL clubs minus Hibs, Rangers take the lead in Osijek while Aberdeen leading against Burnley.

Hard to call any of these matches so early surprises but here are some results which caught my eye: Slovan Bratislava lost 2:1 in Malta to Balzan but that away goal should help, Icelandic side FH went to Haifa and got a 1:1 draw in Israel (some travel too :D) while "Maradona's" Dinamo Brest are hammering Greek side Atromitos 3:0 at home

Sparta Prague down 1:0 to Subotica at half. The odds before the game were something like 1.09 for Sparta

Not a great start for Dutch clubs. Vitesse were 2-0 down to Viitorul in Romania but came back to tie 2-2. AZ however lost 2-0 at Andrey Arshavin's Kairat Almaty in Kazachstan.

Genk are the only Belgian club in this round and they are leading Luxembourg's Fola Esch 5-0 late in the second half.

Some early surprises with Sparta Prague being eliminated by Spartak Subotica, despite winning at home they lost 3-2 on aggregate. Also progressing (sorry) are FC Progres from Luxembourg after losing the first leg 1-0 in Hungary to Honved now winning 2-0 at home. Luxembourg could even make it two teams in the next round as F91 Dudelange hold a 2-1 lead over Kosovo side Drita FC.

Djurgården eliminated by some Ukrainian team, pathetic.

Ukrainian football clubs >>>>>>>>>>>> Swedish football clubs

On another note, sucks for Osijek to bow out after being a better team for two games. They deserved better and over the past two years, they are our club that showed by far the most in Europe, most notably eliminating PSV last year.

I enjoyed the uniform of Osijek's ultras as they went about stabbing people. Black hoodies and shorts, very skater-chic.

Ed- My apologies, I wasn't up to date when I posted this and didn't know it was two Croats stabbed outside the stadium. Should have known better than giving Rangers fans the benefit of the doubt.

You're right. It's Swedish clubs that have been playing well in Europe and getting in the later stages of Euro competitions and not Dinamo, Shaktar or Dnipro.

Besides the top two, maybe three no way. Mariupol looked like a mid table team in Sweden maybe

Couple of surprising half time scores, Zenit down 3-0 to Dinamo Minsk and Feyenoord down 3-0 as well in Slovakia to Trencin.

Zenit and Feyenoord as good as out, more embarrassing for Zenit as they are in season while Dutch clubs still in pre-season, which they should reconsider as this isn't the first time one of their bigger clubs can't get through qualifying, PSV were eliminated early in EL qualifying last season too against a 'smaller' team

Burnley getting hammered in Turkey but still scoreless

Wtf happened to zenit? Surely the guy they hired after Mancini got sacked is going to be under pressure for that result
