Considering the amount of racist **** English fans have been involved in, it seems rather disingenuous to get on some kind of civilizational high horse over it. Mostly wish they could actually punish the people involved for this ****, instead of the team just covering the fine and the actual culprits feeling like ****ing heroes.
No kidding.

Its been mostly reported by the Ukrainian and Portuguese press

He only got his passport like a week ago too, the problem is he spent half-season on loan with a Chinese club so he hasn't lived in Ukraine for 5 consecutive years which is the FIFA statute, but I have a feeling this will be let go

I have a feeling it won't since it helps Portugal.
Portugal which has brasilian players because of a portugese "grandpa", with no problem whatsoever.

Both the Portugal and Luxembourg FA have filed an official complaint to UEFA so let’s see where it goes

edit: In 2018 WCQ, Bolivia had results overturned because of fielding an ineligible player which actually cost Chile at the end of the day, unlike what the article stated :D (Boost for Chile as Bolivia lose forfeit appeal)

Cabrera fulfilled Bolivian requirements for nationalisation, having lived in the country for three years. FIFA, though, requires a five-year period of residence.

There's no problem whatsoever because they don't break any rules, genius. As a cheap as it is, all the Brazilians that Portugal has naturalized had been living and playing in Portugal for years, and had acquired Portuguese citizenship in due time, not because of some tenuous familial connection like you claim. No different than any other country with naturalized Brazilian players, including Ukraine.

And then you claim it won't be ignored because it benefits Portugal, when the reality is that to ignore it would be giving preferential treatment to Ukraine, considering the multiple examples of African and South American sides having their qualifying campaigns essentially turfed for fielding ineligible players. It sucks for Ukraine and it's a shitty way for Portugal to get points they don't deserve, but the rules are black and white and there's an established precedent.

Thank you, "genius". Yes I know it's within the rules.
Does that mean the rules are well done? Hardly. And yes, plenty of times, players have been used with very tenuous familial connections. If that makes you feel any better, Portugal isn't alone on this.
Heck, I could say Trezeguet was french international because he came to France at age 16 and because he was born in France (but basically never lived there before 16).

Those rules suck and indeed Ukraine is going to take a blow from it. Doesn't mean the spirit of the law is always followed.

Thiago Motta played for Italy and he hadn't played 5 years in Italy either. And he played for every brazilian youth selection.

If you know it's within the rules then why are you insinuating that Portugal's getting away with something that Ukraine isn't? They haven't capped any Brazilians because of Portuguese "grandparents". They cap them the same way every other country with Brazilians playing for them does. They might have had a few more because Portugal has a lot more Brazilians playing in their league compared to other countries, which I'm not defending at all, I think it's cheap. Just recently they unnecessarily capped another one, which was widely questioned in Portugal.

This isn't the first time Ukraine has capped a Brazilian, so it's not as if they're being told they aren't allowed to do something bigger teams do. The difference in this case is that they didn't do their due diligence, which is their fault, even if the rules suck and the punishment is excessive. Nor is this only being looked into because it benefits Portugal. So don't go bitterly claiming that Portugal has Brazilian players with no problem whatsoever because according to FIFA's rules there are no problems with it whatsoever. Unless Portugal has fielded ineligible players, which they haven't, there's no relevance to Ukraine's situation.

I'm saying Portugal (which benefits from this) is using bi-nationals to its advantage, sometimes with very thin links.
Which means that there's the rule and the spirit of the rule. One of which isn't respected many times. Ain't hard to understand.

Yes FIFA doesn't see a problem with Thiago Motta joining Italy after 3 years in Serie A because he has an italian grand'pa but sees a problem with Ukraine's situation.

If you feel those rules are fair, more power to you. I don't.

2-2 tie between Bosnia & Greece + Pjanic red card so he's suspended against Finland. Outstanding results today.

Nice comeback by the Danes. Down 3-0 in Basel with 6 mins to go, pulls home a 3-3.

Swiss first goal should have been disallowed btw.

Crazy finishes today, especially in Switzerland where Denmark scored three to tie it and two 90th goals in Norway

Bosnia blew it today, totally dominated Greece but then conceded a goal and got a red card within minutes

So we were 2-0 down against our little brother Norway, turned it around to 3-2 at stoppage time, just to see them score the equalizer on corner in 90+6. f*** off then...

Viktor Claesson has been so good for Sweden since the '18 WC qualifiers. Would like to see him in a top 5 league.

Btw, VAR is heavily neded in quali.

The first goal the Swiss scored should have been dissallowed, since the pass came from a handball.

Denmark scored 4 goals, the first was incorrectly deemed offside.

Could have been 4-2.

Refs were generally very bad, and gave a lot of bad calls.

Imo, he was harsh on Denmark.

BTW, with the whole Ukraine situation.

Shouldn't UEFA determine eligibility when the rosters are announced and notify the coaching staff before the game?

It seems to me that there is plenty of blame to go around for this situation, not just Ukraine's staff.

That's true. Which has been the case of basically every team over the years.

No no, some countries have a few bad individuals and some are all bad. They're easy to tell apart, you just have to look at a map and draw a line down the middle of Europe....

The decision was actually made about a month ago but hidden with all the club football news, but the complaint against the eligibility of Junior Moraes (Ukraine) was thrown out by UEFA so all results are confirmed. Ironically he will miss the June fixtures due to an injury

Matchday 3 will be played today and tomorrow (break on Sunday for the Nations League final) with Matchday 4 taking place Monday-Tuesday. Won't go through all the games today but here are some of the key fixtures

A: Czech Rep vs. Bulgaria, Montenegro vs. Kosovo
In a group which England is expected to breeze games like these will likely determine the runners-up, Czechs looking to rebound from their hammering at Wembley while Bulgaria are unbeaten with two draws. Montenegro-Kosovo would have been an interesting 'derby' type match but its being played behind closed doors. Kosovo are on a high at the moment and haven't lost a match since WCQ in October 2017

B: Ukraine vs. Serbia
One of the more important matches today, both these teams come off impressive draws in Portugal but a Ukraine win will already put them one foot at the Euro defeating a direct rival for the automatic qualifying spots. For Serbia it's a weird start having played their two toughest matches (Portugal and Ukraine away) in the first two rounds. I however see this as a 0:0, low-risk draw game

D: Denmark vs. Rep of Ireland
5th competitive fixture between these two since November 2017, three of the four previous games were 0:0 draws with the only victory being the decisive 5:1 win by Denmark in Dublin in the WC playoff. Ireland have a perfect start but this is their first test, Denmark had that impressive come from behind draw in Basel last matchday

F: -
Spain and Sweden both face the group minnows, Norway vs. Romania doesn't excite the neutral but on a result basis its an important game for Norway who will be chasing the pack if they lose today

G: Austria vs. Slovenia
Probably the most equal group but not the most interesting games, Poland perfect so far but they go to Macedonia which is always a difficult place to play. Big pressure on Austria to get a result against Slovenia after losing their first two matches
