My predictions:

Querterfinals:
15 April: Canada vs. Slovakia 5-2
15 April: Czech Republic vs. Sweden 2-1 :(

Semifinals
16 April: USA vs. CZE 2-3
16 April: Russia vs. CAN 4-1

Bronze Medal Game
18 April: Canada vs. USA 2-4

Gold Medal Game
18 April: Russia vs. Czech Republic 3-2

Hopefully Sweden can beat the Czechs but I expect their goalie to save them.

Sweden defeated Slovakia 5-4 today and finished just like last season, 5th.
Speedy winger Tommy Enström had a good game scoring 2 goals and an assist and Oscar Hedman scored his 3rd goal of the tourney.

Petteri Nokelainen seems to be putting up some numbers. At midterm he was 2nd rated Finn. Could I get some info on him?

Based on what I saw in a training game against the Swedish U18 team before Minsk (lousy game to judge talent I admit): Petteri is a modern, fast, physical, grinding two way winger who is strong in the corners and along the boards. Good skater. Decent hands, good size, perhaps so-so smarts but his obvious drive imo should take him to the NHL. He could be described as a Devils type of prospect. Upside may be solid second liner or elite third liner.

Russia is victorious! As they should be.

Anyone know where I can find pictures?

Anyone seen the all-tourny team or other awards for the U-18 tournament? The IIHF site does not list them. Thanks

good to see Reddox on the list, I wonder how this performance will effect his draft ranking as he was 175th ranked player? :dunno:

Wow, I had no idea he was playing this well. He's only an '87 born defensemen so he'll be back next year. It's a pitty he's so small for a defensive defensemen though. That could hurt his chances with NHL teams. Hopefully he'll grow a little bit over the next year or two.

I've seen Evgeni, Evgenii and Evgeny, but Jevgeni? Come on.
It's the same thing - the alphabet is in cyrillic, so they spell according to sound and these all sound the same.

It's not rocket science - there is no right answer.

That all-star team is a joke. Teemu Laakso should be there, as should Marek Schwartz. Malkin didn't even play that well at all. I thought his performance was sub par considering the hype and the way he played in the 5 nation tournament in Finland in January.

What about Voloshenko or the Finnish line... Reddox and Malkin and Khubobin (no shutouts, mediocre SVS%, let in 4 goals against Norway etc.) should not be on that list. And what's that? Best Defenseman is too good for the all-star team? Not that I think he deserves to be there, it just makes it seem even more like a joke.

And why wasn't Teemu Laakso in the all-star team? Leading defenseman scorer (would've had even more points if the refs had given him all the second assists that he deserved) and only 3 goals were scored against the finns while he was on the ice. And two of them were empty-netters. Just because a team finishes 7th doesn't mean that the individual performances can't be valued. They only lost one game (to the winner of the tournament no less) anyway...

You might think that it doesn't matter, but at this age it does. Nobody remembers how you played, they only see the awards and the stats. Well, at least he got the stats.

I'm familiar with cyrillic.
