Both players could use a fresh start. Some of the other fan bases when wanting a trade with Avs, always for some reason want Jost back in a trade package. This is how I assumed that maybe we can deal Jost to Philly if they are so high on him. Only for a real hockey deal.

He didn't even have a shot last night let alone 2 goals. I said last night

You actually didn't say last night. You quoted my post about the Sharks game apparently to say he was junk in the Rangers game.

The amount of fly-bys he conducted against the Habs today deserves a demotion, I honestly think Avs have a better chance of winning with Toninato in the line up instead of the current play of Jost.

He's jut not a very good player. Game in and game out, he reminds me more and more of Curtis Lazar.

Jost needs to be sent down to the Eagles for the rest of the year!

It works with Rant so why not give it a try. He's just so broken right now, send him down for a year and let him dominate then bring him back.

I think he's been much better lately. He definitely has no business being on any team's second line, but he's actually been generating some chances and looking like he belongs again.

At his lowest point, a few weeks back, he was a 13th/spare forward at best, imo.

Should have happened a long time ago. At this point I doubt they will send him down, no matter how he performs.

Other than that bad shift where he had 2 turnovers I thought he did alright and deserves to stay in the NHL. If you're expecting him to be a scorer this season it's not going to happen, his offensive game just isn't there yet. I see the potential there, I think he can be an O'Reilly-lite but it's probably going to take another 2 seasons before he really establishes himself. If people don't want to wait for that, I get that, but I think there are going to be some people eating crow on this one in a few seasons.

I'd love to be one of those guys but what exactly do you see in Jost that makes you think he's going to develop into a top 6er? Personally, I see a smallish player who can't skate, is a guaranteed turnover machine, bobbles the puck constantly, and who can't win a board battle. I'd love to be proven wrong about this because I was excited when we drafted him but I just don't see it. Sure he has the occasional decent play that more often than not doesn't translate to the scoreboard but we can also say the same about Calvert.

I personally don't see anything that screams O'Rielly type player there. O'Rielly was a defensive stalwart for the squad who pitched in offensively from early on in his career. Not to mention, O'Rielly was actually strong on his skates and while not being a particularly big guy, could at least maintain possession of the puck and win board battles. Maybe O'Rielly-super duper ultra 0 calorie lite.

I guess the concern for me is just that I don't see any high end skillset. He makes some right plays, but there is nothing dynamic about his game when he has the puck. His puck skills have a disturbingly Colin Wilsonesque quality to them.

I see a smart player. I think he sees the play develop and I think he has really good anticipation. He makes a smart short passes if he doesn't hold the puck to long. I see him as more of a shooter while O'Reilly was more of a playmaker. I think he will be a good middle six player. I don't think he'll put up the numbers of the Avs other high end prospects, but I think he'll be someone you can trust in your own end but also put up 20 goals.

He's not without his flaws either. His skating, specially he first few steps are slow. This can be worked on but I still think he'll be below average compared to the rest of the team. I can live with that because as I said earlier I see a smart player. My other main concern is his mental game. He seems nervous. It's like gets tunnel vision if he has the puck on his stick in the offensive zone and he's prone to mistakes if he holds the puck too long. I hoping that is something that will change in time as he continues to adjust to the NHL or maybe with the help of a sports psychologist. I'm not too concerned about his strength. He's 20. He'll have time to get stronger.

I see a smart player...I also see a slow and small player, and he's not quite on O'Reilly's level when it comes to hockey sense. And I think he has to be in order to offset his other deficiencies.

I just don't see an impact player, now or in the future. But it is rather baffling that they refuse to send him down, if he's waiver-exempt I don't see what the goddamn issue is.

I don’t care about him becoming an impact player anymore. I just want a two-way, third line winger who can chip in 30 points a season. Fine, call that a bust, but I still call it a valuable NHLer. He’s not even at that level right now. Let’s hope for rapid improvement.

Well I hope you're right but middle 6er for a top 10 pick leaves a bit to be desired IMO especially when factoring in the Avs other 1st round blunders in Hishon, Siemens, and Bleakley. That's just too many 1st rounders that were wasted away especially if Jost follows suit. If Jost developed into a guy that could put up 50 points while being good in his own end, I'd be good with that but this whole notion of him being a smart player is something that I think is a bit overblown. Being smart but not able to win a puck battle is a rough trade off especially when you factor in that the dude can't skate worth a damn. I do hope you're right and he develops into something respectable but I think Jost is on the fast path towards bust city.

The most painful aspect here is it's hard to see where is the room to grow his game. With his small size, meh speed and average hockey IQ it seems like his ceiling is pretty damn low. So it's not about having to wait one more year or two, it's just that I don't see how he can become much better. He has the tools of a career AHLer.

Agreed 100% here. It's sad but normally when a young player is gauged on potential, it means here exists some underlying attribute to their game that looks promising. With Jost, I see nothing but maybe an average bottom 6er which is devastating for a top 10 pick. I really hope we're just being pessimistic here and he flips a switch but I'm done hoping for him to develop into our 2C.

Never count that out. Before last season started more and more people were warming up to the idea that MacKinnon will be a 50-60 ish guy with meh IQ who comes up big in the playoffs.

True but let's not forget that even in 16-17 MacK was by far our best player stuck on an absolute trainwreck of a team. The eye test showed he had more to give which is what I'm doubtful with in Jost.

The big difference is everyone knew Mack had all the tools, people were (rightfully at the time) questioning his toolbox.

What are Jost's tools though? Does he have something he can build around? Mack had tremendous speed, above average strength and a great shot.

I don't even know if Jost has "meh" speed. He honestly looks like the slowest guy out there on most nights, and that includes Carl Soderberg, who looks positively glacial, especially when he is on a "breakaway." When he's on the forecheck or there's a loose puck in the attacking zone he's "racing" for I just kinda look away now.

Jost has good hands, and if he could just find the time and space to let it off, a good shot. He also has above-average defensive ability. But none of those things are at the level necessary to offset his supreme lack of size and speed.

At this point coaching and management have got to be extremely concerned. He hasn't taken the next step in his development. If anything...he's regressed from his rookie season. At least last season he was getting to loose pucks in the slot area and scoring some greasy goals. I don't really see that guy much anymore.

Again, if it were a question of work ethic or character, there would be no question. But at this point he doesn't look like anything but a marginal NHLer, if that. And there's nothing that I've seen that makes me think otherwise.

I'd like to see what he could do with a guy like Soderberg, who unlike Wilson is a big guy who doesn't pull a Three Stooges act while he's on the ice. Maybe we'd see some ice open up for him and he could rip some shots off. But that might be too little, too late at this point. I think we're looking at Hepple's first honest-to-goodness ****-up, folks. I hope he makes me eat my words...but I doubt it.

I think he would benefit from being sent down, but they're trying to make the playoffs. The issue is they need goals. Specifically from the middle six group, and who are they gonna call up that can truly help them in that regard?

I like Greer, but he's gonna muck it up as a 4th liner, and so is everyone else that would replace Jost in the lineup. Kaut's clearly on the full year in the A development plan.
