The more I think about this, the less it makes sense for Edmonton if Barrie is reasonable with his contract demands.

If they regress next season in a big way and Barrie signs for something reasonable, they are going to get rightfully clowned or their stupidity.

Weird how he excelled in EDM with Drai and McD, but not in TOR with their Big 3.
Powerplay points. Toronto's powerplay has not been good for awhile (set aside the hot start this yr). Edmontons is consistently pretty good. Barrie was also poorly deployed under Babcock, while his production under Keefe had been closer to what he is doing in Edmonton. Lastly, primary and secondary points off mcdavid plays will obviously have a positive effect on gross totals. Not taking anything away from Barrie, as he has an excellent first pass, but a 53 year old beer leauger could put up 50+ points feeding it to Mcdavid the way is is playing now.

Thats why.

He might fool Jim Benning, since Jim did try to sign him. but most GM's are fully aware that his points had to do with him being able to share the ice with a player that just posted 105 points in 56 games a long with another player who posted 84 in 56. He was on the ice most of the time with either one of them or BOTH of them together.

No one Is going to offer him a boat load of money. His stats are inflated because of having those 2 guys as teammates. The best teams will try to do is negotiate based on him being a 60 point offensive dman.

whoever gives barrie a 5-6 year deal will regret it. i doubt he gets it either at this point, at least, not with the flat cap. maybe he could've pre-covid, which still woulda been a mistake, but which GM could possibly be that clueless?

I can see Calgary being a fit here

Maybe LA with the cap space and a need for a PMD
He hates Calgary and Tkachuk due to BoA. He’s also seen how hopless that organization is going forward. He’s also seen how dominant McDavid is and I doubt he’d sign up for facing McDavid on a regular basis. Calgary ain’t happening.

From a selfish standpoint, I hope he doesn't find what he is looking for and stays with Edmonton on a 3-4 year 4-4.5 a year deal. That said, careers are short and if someone offer's a boat load of cash, I'm sure he'll take it, regardless of where that is or how competitive that team is. Easy to say his points are because of Mcdavid and Drai, but both of those guys are having great seasons and I don't think you can ignore the fact that Barrie is a big part of that as well. That said, I'm sure that with-out Barrie both Mcdavid and Drai can & will finish 1-2 in league scoring again, I can't say the same for Barrie without them though.

Barrie with the AVs has already been an excellent offensive player, terrible defensively. Oilers were a perfect fit for his skills. Great player under pressure. Character has always been gracious and excellent.

However, unrealistic salary demands forced him from the AVs and most likely Oilers. Rumoured ask was $7.5M-$8.5M per. Doubt any team would offer near these amounts or will he agree to another team friendly deal.

If he was going to be reasonable, he likely would have been re-signed already.

I don't think teams are ignorant to the reality that McDavid and Drai helped Barrie significantly this year regarding his point totals.

I really can't see him getting a large contract.

He didnt get those number with Matthews/Marner, though, so he must have been doing something good.

The Oilers need to make room for Bouchard. I think he can be the PP no 1 guy if Barrie leave.

But let's not act like Barrie would turn into a pumpkin once he signs elsewhere. He has been a 0,65 PPG defenceman since he joined the league 10 years ago. He's good at getting puck at the net.

Really happy for the guy as an Oiler fan, I always like to see guys bet on themselves and have it pay off. That said, I hope we don't go any higher than 5-5.5M if he comes back this way after testing FA. A team will certainly offer more and if he takes it then all the best to him, no hard feelings. Really don't want some 7m contract on the books for him. People saying 3.75m is FMV are way short, regardless of McDavid impact on his figures.

If he does not sign in Edmonton, watch Oilers fan argue to death that he is not that good and that his great season is principally due to McDrai

Most Oiler fans have been happy with the way it worked out. Don't think you'll find a bunch of sour people if he moves on. I won't be.

I think if a team offers him 7-8m, then you'll more likely see that fanbase be the ones getting upset. This could include the Oilers if Holland is dumb enough to sign him to a contract like that. 5m is a decent price for the guy.

Guy just lead all defenceman in scoring. Lets give him a little credit and let it soak in.

Man does Barrie have a lot of haters still from the leafs. Sure, hes an offensive specialist but hes been a very good fit with Edmonton. He can be a very useful player for the right team if he isn't overpaid, not some useless black hole.

I think everyone but Leaf fans are giving him credit. Very few Oiler fans don't want him back. Those of us who are okay with him leaving know that it is likely because he is going to go for the highest bidder, and that likely can't be Edmonton with our cap structure sitting where it is. It is very possible that he signs a contract that is awful for his new team.

If la can't make a trade for a young dynamic defenseman I would look at signing Barrie. He would help our pp immensely. Having him and Drew would aloud us to either trade Roy or Walker (maybe both ) for a better winger for our top 6 I would offer 6 million for 3 years hopefully in this time we can develop a offensive minded defenseman from this draft.

Why wouldn’t he test the market
Oil will not pay him what he wants on a long term and rightfully so
See if anyone does and if not he can always circle back and take that reported 3 year 5-5.5 per offer

McDrai did not turn Barrie into an offensive force, he always has been. He’s vastly under appreciated offensively. This guy is gonna get a good payday on medium to long term contract and will continue to be what he always has. A league leader in points bringing average to slightly below defence.

I'm not really sure I see him getting a huge payday

Agreed. Every GM in the league already knows what kind of player he is and I doubt going to Edmonton for 1 year to pad his stats will get him a long term deal.
