What proof do you have that he couldn't? Just because he signed here?

Yep. Sets up false conclusions.

The poster first concludes theres no way Barrie comes back, was only here to jump money for his next contract, then when that presumed notion is clearly dispelled by actual event of resigning here, for relative low cost, its the sour lemons "well he couldn't get more anywhere else."

What it boils down to is the poster just for some reason feels that Barrie is mercenary, in it for only himself, despite every detail showing different.

Really? What if the offers came from rebuilding teams? Antiques (SJS), or less desirable places (Detroit) ???
Maybe give him credit for being discerning in managing his career.

Barrie is straight up a better D right now than King Karlson. lmao. Could you imagine paying that tool 11.5M? Drug testing should be mandatory for the Sharks org.

Doug Wilson is an absolute joke. Man, to think people here wanted Karlsson at one time.

I actually totally could've seen Calgary offering him 5.5 or something.

God’s gift? Because I put forth an argument that he wasn’t the #6 defenseman that some people were making him out to be?

This kind of hyperbole isn’t healthy, dude.

The funny thing is, Larsson would be the better than any RHD on the team right now. As for your earlier nonsense comment about Barrie’s contract, any deal with term for a guy who needs to be babysat by the best player in the league is an overpayment.

Barrie coulda got more on the open market. He chose the Oilers and chose McDavid. I think he’s ttired of being tossed around the League, just wants to find a home and a team where he can play his game and succeed. We should give him some homer points here and be glad we get to see him blast some pucks for us for a couple more seasons.

He doesn’t need to be “babysat”, and other than your hilarious interpretations based on some weird bias, not a shred of evidence supports your assertion.

it is astounding how much of a beating his reputation took after that short time in Toronto. He probably felt like there was a good fit with Edmonton and risking a bad situation just for cash maybe wasn't in his best interest. I actually like him being paired with nurse playing lots with mcdavid and draisaitl.

Depends on the Larsson you get. Is it first year and last year Larsson? Or is it the Larsson we got most of the time?

I love Larsson and am sad he is gone but he was really a two sided coin and almsot a coin flip of what you get. If his back injury flares up at all he turns into a terrible player.

If you don't count the numbers and the eye test, sure, there's no evidence.

Whereas Barrie is a player who can't play unless he's getting spoonfed minutes with elite players and Ceci has had maybe one good season in his career and Bouchard who is one bad giveaway from being on the chopping block. Peachy.

Barrie actually did fine away from McDavid but okay, go off

He was underwater by every possible metric from shots to shot attempts to scoring chances to actual goals. There’s a reason Tippett sewed him to McDavids hip at the earliest opportunity.

Oh and also McDavid does better without Barrie.

With the exception of Kulikov who played 10 games, every d-man on the team cratered away from McDavid in basically every possible metric. Adam Larsson included. That fact is by no means limited to Tyson Barrie.

Okay and by the same advanced analytics Darnell Nurse sucks defensively, like awful. What's your point?

When are people going to stop using the "he was tied McDavids hip" argument. Who cares?

The fact he can produce with McDavid is a good thing. You couldnt just throw Ethan Bear in the same slot and expect the same results.

Must be the same people who put less value on powerplay goals. Guess what? Our powerplay is the best the league and that's a good thing.

Barrie, Keith and Bouchard = a solid puck mover on every pairing. Nurse really took great strides in that area as well last season.

Oilers' D is getting again weaker. Last year Klefbom wasn't replaced, luckily Nurse took #1 spot. Now you can think that Keith is for Klefbom but that still is step down. Larsson was the best defensive D last year and it seems like Ceci is replacement. Awful!

Barrie was 2.9 GA/60min on 5-0n-5 while playing with Nurse. And of course with McDavid in 1st line. Larsson was at the same time 2.0. I wouldn't have given the extention to Barrie.

Well, you also think that the Leafs should have traded Matthews for OEL and Dvorak so there is that
