I think it was more against how they were underestimated than analytics per se. But who knows.

By the way the negative goal differential because of the round robin where the Stars sucked overall and got smoked by the Avs in one game . In actual real playoff games Stars are +6 .

Also goal differential is not an analytic . Wierd question.

The whole round robin needs to be ignored. That was not playoff hockey from any of the teams.

I've said it for years. Analytics in hockey are stupid. This sport simply does not have the necessary stat keeping to perform solid analytics.

You can analyse a turd all you want, but at the end of the day, it's still a turd.

Statistics are meant to help complement, support or explain on-ice information. They are a supporting tool. Unfortunately, many people abuse them as the single source of an argument. Statistics without proper context and conferral with on-ice results are useless. This is why arbitrary stupid statements like "the numbers don't lie" is an ignorant approach to statistical usages.

Unsurprisingly, Tyler Seguin doesn't understand analytics, what they are, what they tell us and how they're used.

Which is totally fine. He's a professional athlete, nobody's expecting him to be smart. Hell half the fun of this whole thing is to do some dumb bragging after a win. Tweet away and have fun, Tyler.

I mean you just need to watch Bowness postgame to see Seguin may not believe in analytics but Bowness does but not in all analytics the same. 5on5 scoring chances the Stars where absolutely fine throughout the series. If Vegas wants to shoot harmless shots from the outside on an unscreened goalie after passing the puck around for a minute or two in the offensive end than by all means go ahead. It just wastes everybodies time but nothing will happen.

You said it all much better than I could have. Paper tigers and poof.

Posters relying only on any type of analytic stats are not seeing the full picture. Then some even pick only stats solely to "win" arguments on HF such as P/60.

Vegas kept doing this thing where it looked like they wanted the corsis or rel/poss or whatever more than the goals or the wins, and it cost them...maybe there is something to what Seguin is saying here!

For all the talk about analytics and Seguin’s playoff stats, he might have had the single most important play of DAL’ playoff run
