No kidding. He's 6th in the entire league for assists. That shows something's going on.

He probably needs to work on his shot a little more and continue to work on his skating to take the next step. How is his strength in board battles?

Kid deserves to have at least one NHL game this season. Just to know what it'll be like going forward.

Usually the Top AHL'ers miss a fair amount of games while being called up.

Benson is a steal cant wait to see what he does next year in the AHL

DeBrincat sure seemed like the obvious choice at that pick, and as he is playing and scoring well in the NHL full-time, he was the better pick.

But nobody else picked around there is doing as well as Benson. I'm not sure he has the shot or speed to be a star player in the NHL, but he's got great hockey sense and passing ability.

I think he could likely already play PP2 on the Oilers right meow and he's got a chance to make it next year.

I agree that he needs to work on his speed, and he needs to stay healthy. Otherwise, major arrows up. He must be pretty happy.

7 goals 9 assists in his last 14 GP.

Maybe a kid at his age is still developing and figuring out the game.

In other news, Lagesson with another goal yesterday. 4 goals 11 assists in his last 20 games. Not bad for a what is/was supposedly a defensive specialist with little to no offense.

Should be remembered that Benson has had some pretty serious injury struggles in his career thus far. Because of that, I think it would be safe to say he is behind the development of a typical 20 year old, or at least the typical amount of in game experience.

I'm just thankful we didn't manage to take another Mitch Moroz. Of course we could have had Debrincat, but we would be mistaken to let that cloud our view of Benson. There is always a better player that we could have had.

We could have had Nikita Kucherov instead of David Musil. You can look back at the Oilers draft history and find this kind of thing with nearly every pick outside of McDavid and Drai. Get over it.

Agreed. Benson was rated higher than Debrincat anyways. Benson was slated for the end of the 1st round to be picked up, but we nabbed him in the 2nd.

The fact that Benson looks good even with him being behind in development is amazing.

This is the most important thing about Benson and his goal totals. With junior players it's really important to breakdown the season instead of just looking at totals. If you just break down the season in parts you can see how his goal scoring keeps improving and improving.

He's clearly learning how to score at the pro level and he's now scoring at a nice pace.

It would be nice to have a brief assessment from some of the folks following the Condors more closely. Is he getting lucky, was he unlucky before, has he learned when to shoot, and so on?

@McCupofOil you got any feedback on this?

If Benson wasn’t injured for most of his Jr career he would have been a top 10 pick. He was always a good young player but we have to see his all his time missed to injury set him back.

From what I've seen I think he was passing off more at the start of the season than he is now. Part of it is just puck luck. He was shooting a super low percentage and sort of recovered from that.

I purchased the AHL package about a month ago so I didn't see much of him when he was struggling to score goals to give a comparison between now and then.
Based purely on stats, it seems like he was shooting plenty enough but since I didn't see a lot of those games, I'm not sure how high percentage a lot of those shots were.

What I am seeing from him is a lot of confidence carrying the puck which I hadn't seen from him in the past. As the goals have started to come, it seems like his confidence has grown and he's starting to become somewhat of a line driver whereas Marody was the straw that stirred the drink previously.
