This is a tough one because TVR has been so quietly solid for us. The bright side is it means nobody's going to have to play their off side anymore, and of all players to throw into the lineup I guess a stay-at-home defenseman (which Fleury is in spades) is probably the safest best.

Seems survivable, but it definitely takes away a small advantage we've been holding against opposing lineups.

Agree with this.

In a way it’s a better hit to take because he’s our only injured dman (as opposed to being just few forward injuries away from calling up Steven Lorentz), but he’s frankly been outstanding in these playoffs. If it’s a broken clavicle he’s out for the year. Fleury with a golden chance to prove himself.

You all know how much I like TvR. I would have insisted on a first-rounder if we were to have traded him. But if we're going to have a long-term injury, RD is the place to have it. As a matter of fact, getting Pesce back to his normal side probably makes us a better group, top to bottom, especially if we put Pesce/Slavin back together at 5-on-5.

This one hurts a lot more emotionally than it does on the ice.

There was a quick shot of Fleury on the bench imm after the injury with a trainer working (pushing) on it - my guess is dislocated/separated shoulder - if he broke his collarbone I would think it would be immediately obvious, and wouldn't think the trainer wouldn't be working the area in that case

Saw that as well. I was hoping he'd Riggs it back in place and be back in for the 2nd period.

I can understand keeping injury news close to the vest during the playoffs. But if a player has surgery, the team should release that info. In the NFL, you have no choice. It's ridiculous for the NHL to have guys with "lower body injuries" and "questionable" status when they are being wheeled into the operating room.
1. The reason the NFL has no choice is because of the influence sports book / betting has on NFL policies and by-laws.

2. For any sports league to carte blanche release player medical information, there would need to be a HIPPA release (at least in the USA). I don't know if signing a NHL SPA includes that release by default. Even if it did, there has to be some retained player and team discretion. e.g., Scott Darling situation before he joined the Canes.

In regards to Ferland, I don't think "rehab" implies recovery from surgery.

Call me crazy, but I'm guessing left collarbone for TvR. The way he went into the boards (ducking down) looked to me like he caught his shoulder are on the edge of the dasher boards. He didn't scream in agony like Oshie, so maybe not.

That's what I thought when I saw it happen, and afterwards on the bench, too.

RBA/Chynoweth did an outstanding job re-distributing the TOI. As a Sabres fan, we've grown used to Ristolainen regularly logging 26-27 min a night on a healthy 6-man unit.

Unfortunately, assuming shoulder, I think it likely TVR out the rest of this series.

Too bad. He was playing well and it seemed like he was kind of the Brock McGinn of the defense - sparkplug type of guy who gets people fired up. Thought maybe for a minute he might be coming back when the NBC people said something last night during the broadcast.

Fleury has been pretty solid though, I've seen him make a few small mistakes but I've also seen him make some nice plays with his stick and a couple of nice pinches to keep a possession going. I don't think we're losing too much in terms of quality of play - maybe chemistry/leadership though. I know Tripp has always had glowing things to say about what kind of a dude TVR is.
