Tuukka Rask notches his 250th win, jokes ‘250 more to go I guess’ - The Boston Globe

In October, when Tuukka Rask didn’t have a handle on his game, he spent a moment reflecting, during an off-day, on how he might spend his post-career days. He confided to a dressing room visitor that while he hadn’t given it a lot of thought, he planned to get away from hockey when he hangs up the pads.

Rask may go the way of his former netmate Tim Thomas, said to be somewhere in the American West. He may return to Finland, never to be seen again by this hockey-hungry city. But that is a long way off.

“It’s 250 wins, 250 more to go I guess,” Rask said jokingly Tuesday, after earning career win No. 250 in Boston’s 4-0 win over Minnesota at TD Garden. The 31-year-old netminder made 24 saves for his first shutout since last March 17, and the 42nd of his career.

Here to remind everyone that Rask has a career save % better than anyone in NHL history not named Hasek and a better GAA than any modern goalie outside of Brodeur and Hasek.

He’s pretty good.

Yeah but he never steals a game and all he does is let in softies. He's probably worth the league minimum, but not a penny more.

This thread shouldn’t only be bumped when we lose. Other than the one mistake again the Hurricanes (when the rest of the team had already given up) he has been at the top of his game since coming back from leave.

They should probably start to give him more pre-season games. It's always the same story. Slow start, half of the fanbase tries to drive him out of town, come January he's top-10 in league save percentage.

Get him a fake calendar where every month just alternates between November and December.

Quite a rebound. Still want Halak to take as much off his plate as possible though, 50/50 split or close to it would be ideal

Rask is on fire

Good for him

Unfortunately he seems to take the first 20 games to warm up ...

Right now he is playing at an elite level

Currently rocking a .920 and top 10 in the league in sv% and top 5 in GAA.

It's same damn thing every year. He'll probably dip a bit in February and end the season somewhere between .915 and .920. Although he has played less games than usual this year so maybe that will help him keep his numbers up.

He is a damn good goalie and even if he isn't a yearly Vezina guy anymore he provides consistency and has been keeping this team in some games they don't deserve during an important stretch. Y'all should look at St. Louis and Edmonton and Calgary and ask if they would be dying to boot one of the most consistent goalies in the league.

Rask has been one of the best goalies in the world since he entered the league. Don't argue with me, either. When you look back at his career, his numbers are right up there with the all time greats.

The fact that for a franchise as 0ld as the B's and he is going to be the all-time wins leader says a big something about the historic state of goaltending here. It's not the Flyers, but it's been wretched at times, especially in my lifetime (saw my first B's game in 73 as a little boy.) Everyone that rips and tears on Tuukka needs to remember that he is the the best goalie we've had in modern times, especially when you consider how long has been good. He isn't done yet, either. Even if he doesn't play a Vezina season, the Bruins will never have goaltending as a major issue so long as he is on the team.

idk if its that of if the great ones we've had were shorter peaks.

Tiny Thompson - HOF'er
Frank Brimsek - HOF'er
Cheevers - HOF'er (cost them a lot jumping to the WHA)
Tim Thomas - 2 Vezina, Cup, Smythe...just a very short peak
Tuukka Rask - Vezina winner, looks to be having a long peak here

After that its a lot of hot and cold types with Lemelin, Moog, Dafoe, Raycroft.

But to your point, only 9 goalies have made at least 250 appearances for the Bruins

Yeah there were definitely some good ones, but they didn't last that long, at least in the modern era as you point- more often than not it felt like we had question marks in the goal.
