Playoff chances are getting into the fantasy realm:

If 94 points are needed, then the CBJ need to play at a .661 clip.

If 96 points are needed then .679. If 97, then .688.

I think it is beyond fantasy it is now in miracle territory.

Next year will be the year :)

Now suck bad enough to get a top draft pick and don't screw this up with a miracle run at 9th place in the East.

Unfortunately feeling much the same. Yes we've improved but without any truly decent winning streaks/long-term positive habits(Torts speak) there really is no conversation to be had.

They're 10-9 under Torts. Obviously better than under Richie but .500 hockey the rest of the season won't get them anywhere. This two steps forward, two steps back thing is getting annoying.

The change in play since they got rid of Richards is evident. I never thought that TR was much of a coach, more of a "nice guy" than a coach. As the article suggests, Torts has them playing well but it may not be enough. I will continue to pull for them. But I am a bit annoyed that the FO allowed TR to get away with the miserable starts so often.

Fantasy or not, haven't we done that clip before?

Over a 56 game stretch, I doubt it. I don't know where I could check that out without manually going through a schedule-and that's not going to happen. LOL. The Jackets top seasons were their playoff seasons of 92 and 93 points. 93 points is a 56.7% winning percentage. So over the course of a full season, the CBJ have never even come close to playing at the clip needed to gain a playoff spot this season.

This season in the NHL, only 5 teams are playing at a pace of earning 66% of possible points.

Over the past four full NHL seasons, I've gone back and looked at the number of teams which have accumulated 108 points (66% of the possible 164). Here are the numbers:

2014-15......5
13-14..........6
11-12.........4
10-11.........1

Even if the CBJ get 66% of their remaining points-which would give them 94points-it may not be enough to make the playoffs.

Last year we went 36-20-3 from Nov 30 on. Included in that time are 2 stretches where I think we went 25-2-2. Outside of the streaks we were 11-18-1.

The points won were 75 out of 118 or a .644 clip. I don't see history repeating itself in terms of the 2 streaks but I'm sure we'll screw up and win enough to hurt our draft position.

For future reference you can google nhl standings as of a certain date and there are lots of sites showing them. Then its pretty easy. In case you are so inclined.

There are more teams in the conference now, so it makes sense that the bar is no longer 94 in the East (though, I guess it was in 2014). More Eastern Conf games = more 3 point games within the conference. Will be interesting to watch the trend, especially with expansion coming.
