Is there anyone in the world who is a competent broadcaster? It doean't seem like it based on comments on this thread. Everyone is terrible

Overdrive, Scotty Mac, Shilton, Bobby Mac, Lebrun, Chris Johnson, the other Johnson

I'm not going to lie though, a lot of radio and TV is a tough slog if your looking for in depth Leafs coverage

you can’t get any daily in depth coverage because the Leafs don’t offer any information, so the next best option is to entertain and critique what they see during the games.

It's a profession that's subjective by nature. Just like most sports analysis jobs.

It's a lot like the people who scream "omg Steve Dangle is such a moron how does he get so much attention and big appearances on media rah rah". They just don't get it, Dangle's entire act is a hyper-reactionary "hot-take" artist that's put on almost entirely for entertainment purposes. Why are people judging his hockey knowledge relative to the act he puts on. I guarantee he knows hockey just as well as any of the average schmos around here who love to call him stupid.

Overdrive is 50/50 and Shilton is a reporter (like Masters). Not a bad one and I like her a lot more than Masters but she doesn't really provide any in-depth analysis.

Y’all are just lucky you didn’t have to suffer through Paul Finebaum and that godforsaken mess of a show like I did before radio was easily accessible on the internets.

Who wants to listen to a guy who knows just as much as an average schmo? Sorry, but I’m kind of looking for insight beyond some random guy in his pajamas. And there’s a reason why respected people always apologize for “hot takes”, they’re usually steamy and irrelevant to instructive analysis.

The average schmo is over rated, social media low brow, he’s boring.

I don't hate on him for making a career out of his schtick. I say good for you kid.

I will say though, it's rare you find an actress who is capable of winning an Academy Award for acting doing porn instead of starring in a major motion picture. Usually the girls in porn are there because that's their ceiling acting wise.

Bob McKenzie makes far more money than Dangle. The "scream into a computer in your mom's basement" routine will only take you so far.

I agree.

But I don't think there's more than 10 people on tv for hockey that watch as much hockey or know as much as me.
Your average "expert" probably follows one team, just watches their games, and makes comments. No different than anyone here.

There's only a few Button, McKenzie, Poulin types who clearly are speaking at a mensa level of hockey knowledge and expertise.

It is true, sometimes you’re listening to the radio and guys with actual shows display the most pedestrian of analysis about the team, just glaring omissions or total lack of understanding. It’s kind of amazing sometimes.

Especially the beat guys. When analysis turns to other teams all they know is either point totals or what some random analytics site tells them.

you know what’s sad? I read this and there are about 99% of broadcasters/radio people you could be talking about. And I still don’t know who it is

dangle is both an idiot when it comes to hockey, and an idiot in general, imo. Maybe the most unfortunate thing about the Leafs is that they’ve allowed such a complete fool to become famous

Dangle is just a another Mirtle's spawn to spread Mirtle's pro Dubas / anti Babcock propaganda. All Dangle's so called opinions come from Mirtle.

I hate these excel sheet warriors, but even more I have these morons who spread excel sheets warriors message without any knowledge.

I don’t read Mirtle since I refuse to pay a dime on reading sports content... but didn’t he recently write an article defending Babcock??

It's all Leafs all the time.
It's what the market wants.
Leafs Beat, Leafs Street, Leafs Meet, Leafs Treat, Leafs Defeat, Leafs Retreat, Leafs Seat, Leafs Teat!
"Let's open up the phone lines and talk about all of these Europeans with all of thier silly skating, passing and play-making. What's wrong with the roster? Should we fire the coach? Should we fire Dubas? Let's just see how stupid the listenership is. I'm Moron Man, and I want to know."

It's not a sin to be a fan of all Toronto teams and to be critical of the sports media coverage.
I love the American Association of US Ice Hockey Teams and the teams in the Canadian Branch Plant Division of it as much as the next guy.

I think - like many of us must- that there is a lack of legitimate criticism of the AAUSIHT on sports radio in Toronto because the AAUSIHT pays the bills.

There's a lot of room for the Patrick O'Thuggos and less room for the Ivan Svenskys because the parents listing want their kid to make it to the AAUSIHT and change the station when confronted with facts that the AAUSIHT needs to expand the market and that means mixed martial arts are out.

What drives Canadians batty is to point out the American nature of the AAUSIHT, and that even then, hockey is a Northeastern and northern Midwestern thing.

We need more "Business of sports" as I think that would help get people to know why something is happening (AAUSIHT Expansion teams like the New Orleans Booze Hounds and the San Diego Bikini Waxers and not the Toronto Demand Off The Charters.) Note the Leafs getting a ridiculously bad whistle in the playoffs. Not by accident. The AAUSIHT is seeking that American TV deal, and that means no Canadian Stanley Cups unless the team is like the Soviet Red Army team. Why not have open discussion on that? Why not call out the NBA, the AAUSIHT, NFL and MBL for their nonsense from time to time? And maybe see the business case for it, and then see it is not nonsense but methodically planned out strategy that is whip smart. Ever notice how the top 10 markets in the NBA have won 90% of the titles and the remaining teams a small handful (see San Antonio) is that an accident?
